Task Automation Task Automation is all about automating recurring IT tasks on servers and desktops. RES ONE Automation provides many pre-defined tasks that eliminate complex scripts. With a few clicks, these tasks can be scheduled in many ways on individual computers (Agents) or on groups of computers (Teams). Information about all Jobs and administrator activities is automatically gathered in the central Datastore.
When configuring Tasks, the first step is to create a Module. A Module is a container for one or more Tasks that you can execute on Agents and Teams. Modules hold information about the way in which these Tasks should be executed. The ability to use a series of Tasks in a Module is very useful if one Task is directly related to the other one, for example because it represents a specific activity or individual technical task. Modules can be combined into Projects. A Project is ideal for combinations of Modules that you need to perform often. By combining several Modules into one Project, the Modules in the Project can be scheduled as one Job instead of as a series of separate Jobs. With Parameters and Variables, you can make Modules and Projects generic and therefore very powerful. Parameters and Variables function as placeholders for customer-specific values, such as server names, passwords and credentials. Generic Modules and Projects allow IT professionals to create independent activity libraries that can be used in different environments. With Building Blocks, you can export configuration. Building Blocks can be imported into any RES ONE Automation environment. This is ideal for testing, acceptance, and production environments.

Resource Provisioning With Resource Provisioning, you can link together multiple pre-defined tasks into lists called Run Books that provision resources within your organization. Because provisioning tasks are rarely performed on a single computer, Run Books are very useful in complex maintenance tasks that involve different computers, such as Microsoft Active Directory domain controllers, SQL database servers, VMware servers and Microsoft Exchange servers. For example, with a single Run Book you can set up a computer for a newly hired employee, back up an ERP server, or reboot all servers in a Citrix server farm sequentially.

Technology RES ONE Automation requires only a few components for operation. A central RES ONE Automation Console is used for setup, configuration and activities. All configurations are stored in a central Datastore. The Dispatcher takes care of communication between the Datastore and Agents. Depending on your network topology, multiple Dispatchers can be deployed to handle the load.
