Welcome to Introduction to Website Design Course Objective: Web Design is a half year elective course selected by 9th-12th grade students that have an interest in developing skills with the mark-up language html and the styling language CSS to create, style, and maintain websites. Students will also be kept apprised of current happenings with technology, incorporate vocabulary into technology discussions, and work with web-based image editors and web editors.

Designing and planning webpages Using HTML to provide the structure and content to a website Using CSS to provide style and format to a webpage Image editors to create and manipulate graphics Culmination project portfolio to effectively display student work

Student Assessment: Student progress with their ability to use html, CSS, and the strategies presented in class to create and maintain professionally appearing websites will be assessed throughout the semester. Students will demonstrate evidence, self-evaluate, and reflect upon the work they have completed to demonstrate the development of their skills.

21st Century Skills Technology – Students will use web-based software and tutorials to develop skills using website mark-up and styling languages. Communication – Students will collaborate directly and via web based software, incorporating technical terminology to assist in developing their skills to create and maintain a web presence. Civic & Social – Students will appreciate proper digital etiquette, and the importance of an appropriate

online presence. Problem Solving – Students will use technology and their communication skills to effectively find solutions to theirs and peer inquiries that arise during the website creation process. Absences: * When a student falls behind he/she will need to make up the missing assignments during a study hall or after school. I am available for extra help/make up work before and after school so please see me to arrange for time to work together. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of and make up work they are missing!
