In this Seminar eminent Social Scientist, Historians and Scholars from India will participate as Guests of Honour, Keynote Speakers, Chairpersons of the Technical Sessions, Delegates and Resource Persons and will make a humble attempt to add one more chapter to the studies and research on the life, works and vision of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, a revolutionary social reformer of the 19th Century India. The seminar will be structured as an intensive mix of lectures by the eminent historians/scholars, presentation of seminar papers by the delegates/participants, panel discussions and the imparting of some essential software skills, i.e., power-point presentation and the like. Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule (11 April 1827 – 28 November 1890), popularly known as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, is called as the father of Indian social revolution. Most known for his efforts to liberate Dalits, women and the ‘Bahujan people’ from the bondage of unjust social order, Phule was an activist, social reformer, writer, philosopher, editor and revolutionary from Maharastra. He was pioneer of radical social reform in India. His remarkable influence was apparent in various fields of social reform like caste system, untouchability, gender, education and village. In September 1873, he along with his followers founded the Satyashodhak Samaj (Society of Seekers of Truth) with Phule its first president and treasurer. The main objective of this organization was to serve the Shudras, Ati-Shudras and women and to ‘save’ them from exploitation and atrocities of the orthodoxy and upper classes. Being an organic thinker he wrote many books including the famous treatise ‘Gulamgiri’ (Slaverly). Phule had many followers. The stalwart among them was Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the father of Indian Constitution, who was greatly inspired by his movement. Hence, the great contributions of Mahatma Phule could hardly be over emphasized and it is highly imperative that we devote serious attention to his life, works and vision through a national seminar. The aim of the proposed Seminar is to imbibe knowledge among students, research scholars and young faculty members about the life, works and vision of Mahatma Phule. The seminar will also enable the participants that in what way the new sources on the subject may be utilized. Therefore, you are requested to depute one or more teacher(s) of History for this National Seminar, so that his/their learning may benefit the students of your college. The last date for receiving abstract of the papers is 30 September 2013 and full paper is 10 October 2013. The soft copy of the abstract and full paper should be sent to
