A Note from the Director If someone told me five years ago that I would be directing and producing Jesus Christ Superstar, I would have called them silly. When I founded MCTC in 2008, I knew I always wanted to do JCS. It was my dream show. However, I never thought we would get there. It was tech heavy and called for very specific types of actors—mostly high tenors. You see, the reason I love this show so much is because, when I was 11 or 12 years old—maybe even younger—my mom sat me down and put a VHS in the VCR (wow, those are very dated terms). It was Ted Nealy in the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I was in awe. That was the first time I learned about musical theatre. When I think about it now, I don’t know if I ever would have gotten into musical theatre if I hadn’t viewed that film all those years ago. I decided to do JCS this year specifically for our 5th Anniversary Season. The Board of Directors and I knew we needed something “big.” So one day, after seeing the amazing turnout we received from Company auditions, I trusted Samantha Steiger’s advice of, “if you build it, they will come.” Our concept of JCS was very simple. Take a wonderful story and tell it the best we can. We didn’t choose to modernize it, but to instead look at it with a contemporary lens. When we did that, we discovered that the Apostles could be boys or girls, Jesus could be any race and Jerusalem can be anyplace. The production is rough and edgy and we want it that way. We stripped an orchestra of 18 down to a rock band of 4. We did all of these things knowing that we need to tell a story about faith, sacrifice, rebellion, fear and most importantly, love. Our hope is that, if you’re a believer you enjoy your faith played out on stage and if you’re not a believer, you’ll enjoy this story of love. It has been an honor and privilege to work with the best and most talented creative team I have ever had and the most talented and energetic group of actors I have ever cast. What you are about to witness is our testament of love. We hope you enjoy it. Thank you for coming and supporting MCTC now and over the last five years. We hope to see you for our next five. Adam Mace
You’ll notice some changes here at MCTC… No printed tickets sold at the door... A smaller playbill… No cardstock covers...
MCTC is going green! Do you want to help? Help us continue to go green by recycling your playbill. And if you want to keep it, that’s okay too...just don’t ever throw it away! All paper used to enhance the scenic design of Jesus Christ Superstar will be recycled and reused. Love, Your friends at MCTC

MCTC Mission Statement Mount Carmel Theatre Company (MCTC) is a place for young emerging artists to gain more experience, craft their skill, and build their theatrical resumes. The company is not only for those who wish for professional careers in theatre within the future, but also for those who share a deep passion for the art and want to master it to the best of their abilities. The company acts as a doorway from amateur theatre to professional theatre. In addition, the company strives to promote education in and through theatre. We come from a school of thought where the "process" of creating theatre and learning along the way is equal to the "product." If one is weak, the other falters as well. Furthermore, the company supports each other professionally, artistically, and fraternally. All of this is accomplished still with the larger goal of creating quality productions in mind.
