Job Posting – Executive Director, Sport Tourism Tourism Victoria and SportHost Victoria have collaborated to create a new model to champion sports events in the Greater Victoria region effective April 1, 2018. This will create a much stronger sports tourism focused entity under the legal structure of Tourism Victoria, with full participation and support of the sporting community. This exciting opportunity combines the organization strength of Tourism Victoria along with the expertise of our sporting leaders in Greater Victoria. This new recruit will lead sports tourism in Greater Victoria to even greater heights of success. Greater Victoria is a year-round tourism and sports hosting destination that currently hosts more than 100 major regional, provincial, national and international sporting events a year, and there is significant opportunity to grow sport tourism benefits for the region. Summary of the Executive Director, Sport Tourism Role: The Executive Director, Sport Tourism is responsible for promoting and selling Greater Victoria as the destination for sport related events, activities and competitions through innovative sales and marketing efforts to increase the quality and quantity of these activities in alignment with the overall strategic objectives of the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission. Reporting to the President and CEO of Tourism Victoria, the Executive Director ensures that the strategy for sport tourism in Greater Victoria is implemented, monitored and evaluated. The individual will work collaboratively with Tourism Victoria teams to leverage expertise, and drive momentum for the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission. The Executive Director will be empowered to execute the self-funded strategy of the Sport Tourism Committee with the full support of Tourism Victoria. The ideal candidate for this role will have: • Approximately 10 years of experience in the sport development field, with experience from grassroots to high performance sport. • Proven experience in sport tourism with a track record of success. • Experience working in complex multi-stakeholder and multi-sport events with a solid understanding of the business objectives of tourism and the sport tourism industry. • Experience in sales, management, and developing and leading teams to success. • Experience and proven ability to drive positive results in member-based organizations. • A thought leader with a solid understanding and demonstrated ability to utilize best practices, innovation, and key trends in sports. • Deep understanding of organizations with multiple departments such as sales, marketing, finance & accounting, etc., and how to involve and maximize the resources available to achieve a business objective.
