JOIN US! Join the public charter school community for an open and honest dialogue about charter schools’ successes and challenges. Featuring Nina Rees, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. Since 1997, public charter schools have been a high-quality option for thousands of Connecticut students and families. Charters consistently prepare children for a successful future and show that with grit, ingenuity, and a culture of excellence, any child can excel. Still, each of the 24 charters in Connecticut is a unique environment designed to work for the surrounding community and attract local students year after year. So just what is it specifically that charter schools are doing to educate children so well and compel parents across the state to choose them for their children? To begin to answer that question, the Northeast Charter Schools Network is hosting the first-ever Impact of Charter Schools panel discussion on Thursday November 5th, at Highville Charter School in New Haven. The event is meant to bring the community together for an open and honest dialogue about charter schools’ successes and challenges. We’ll be examining how charter schools’ students perform academically, who they serve, how they engage the community, and how they meet the ever-growing needs of children and families. Please join NECSN on Thursday, November 5, for an evening of in-depth discussion on the impact charter schools have on our state. Confirmed Panelists Nina Rees, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools (Moderator) Babz Rawls Ivy, Editor-in-Chief of The Inner-City News (Moderator) Lizanne Cox, Director of Common Ground High School in New Haven Jill Johnson, Executive Director/Principal of Explorations Charter School Matt Nittoly, Executive Director of Side by Side Charter School Dr. Charlene Reid, Executive Director of Stamford Charter School for Excellence Ronelle Swagerty, CEO of New Beginnings Family Academy in Bridgeport Dacia Toll, Co-CEO and President of Achievement First
