Junos Pulse for Windows Mobile Using Junos Pulse
Junos Pulse allows you to securely access protected network resources from your Windows Mobile™ handheld device. Junos Pulse protects your handheld device against spyware and viruses such as Trojans, and worms, and includes tools to reduce the risks of lost and stolen devices.
NOTE: The features available in Junos Pulse depend on how your administrator has configured VPN and security settings.
Installing Junos Pulse
Junos Pulse includes the following features:
The Junos Pulse client is available from the Juniper Networks support site. After you install Junos Pulse, you must reboot the phone in order for the firewall application to work. Once installed, the Junos Pulse icon appears on the Start menu and in the Programs list.
Connection: Lets you add, edit, and remove network connections. Intranet: Provides Web links configured by your network administrator. Email: Launches your email application. Security: Provides access to Junos Pulse security features.
Adding a Connection You can add a connection for each different network you connect to. To define a connection: 2. Select Connections.
Status: Lets you view, delete, and email Junos Pulse log files, which you might need to do in a troubleshooting operation. The log files show all security incidents, such as virus scan times and viruses discovered.
3. Click the Add button to add a new connection. Enter the following information.
About: Version information about the Junos Pulse software.
1. Start Junos Pulse.
Connection name: A descriptive name.
Viewing Connection Status
URL: The Web address provided by your network administrator.
The status of your current connection appears at the bottom of the Junos Pulse window. An icon indicates whether the connection is active or inactive. A second icon indicates whether VPN is on or off.
4. Select Save.
Connecting Junos Pulse uses your device’s 3G, 4G, Edge, or WiFi connectivity to establish an authenticated connection to a protected network. To connect:

The status bar also shows the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds left for your current session.
1. Start Junos Pulse. 2. Select Connect. 3. Enter your username and password.
Registering Junos Pulse Security
4. Click Sign In.
You must register Junos Pulse security before you can access Junos Pulse security features. You do not need to have an active Junos Pulse connection to register Junos Pulse security. To register security:
After your username and password have been accepted, you can access Junos Pulse features provided through your corporate connection.
1. Start Junos Pulse. 2. Select Security. 3. Enter your Email address. 4. Enter your Password and Confirm it. 5. Specify the License Code provided by your network administrator.

Junos Pulse for Windows Mobile Scan custom folder for viruses: Lets you scan a selected file, folder, or the installed SD card. Click Start Now to open the component screen and choose a scan target.
6. Enter the Phone number, including the country code. (If the number does not appear, enter it manually including Country Code and Area Code without the international dialing prefixes: '00' or '+'. Do not use spaces, parentheses, or special characters.)
Show Quarantine GUI: Select Show to view files that were quarantined by the antivirus scan.
7. Click Register.
Opening Junos Pulse Security
Configuring and Using Junos Pulse Firewall
After you register Junos Pulse security, the Security button opens the Security screen, where you can work with the following security features:
The firewall security features let you block or allow data traffic to and/or from the device using rule lists that control traffic based on port number, IP address, and other options. 1. Start Junos Pulse.
Antivirus: Configure and control antivirus settings.
2. Select Security. 3. Select Firewall and configure the following:
Firewall: View and control firewall settings.
Antispam: Configure and control antispam settings.
Monitor and Control: View security and privacy settings.
Backup and Restore: Back up contact and calendar appointment information to a central location.
Security Settings: Set scan intervals.
Security Level: Select a security level from the pulldown list. When you select a level, firewall rules that correspond to that level are added to your active rule list. 4. Click the New button to add a new rule to your active firewall rule list. Use the Edit and Delete buttons to make changes to existing rules and to delete rules from the rule list.
Configuring and Using Junos Pulse Antivirus The antivirus service protects your handheld device by scanning all data going to and from the device. It can also scan secure digital (SD) cards to prevent device infections from malware that may have been stored on the card. To configure and run antivirus features:

Configuring and Using Junos Pulse Antispam
1. Start Junos Pulse.
The antispam service protects your smartphone from unsolicited calls and SMS spam. The antispam menu provides options for creating, customizing, and deleting blacklists that are used in spam filtering. To configure and run antispam features:
2. Select Security. 3. Select Antivirus and configure the following: Antivirus Real time Protection: This turns antivirus on and off (Enable or Disable). Scan Memory Card on Insert: This feature is disabled by default. To enable it, select Enable.

Virus Definitions updated on: The latest definitions are loaded when you register, and they are updated on a schedule set by the security administrator. To update the definitions manually, select Update Now.
3. Select Antispam and configure the following: Name: Enter the name of the of the person from whom you want calls or messages blocked.
Scan all files and folders for viruses: To start a complete system scan, select Start Now.
Number: Enter the number from which you want calls or messages blocked.

Block Calls from this number: Select this check box to block voice calls originating from the number you entered.
To restore device data, contact your administrator.
Block SMS messages from this number: Select this check box to block SMS messages originating from the number you entered.
Using Security Settings
4. Select Choose from Contacts if you want to use a number from your contact list.
Security settings are configured by your security administrator, and changes are downloaded to your device. To change security settings:
5. Select Save. Once you enter at least one number into the antispam feature, the Antispam window changes to allow for adding additional numbers. You can also select to Enable Shortcode Blocking in the Antispam window after you have at least one entry.
1. Start Junos Pulse. 2. Select Security. 3. Select Security Settings. Automatically update security settings and data: You can specify how often your device contacts the server for updated settings. To perform an immediate update, click Update.
Shortcode blocking is not specific to any entries you add. It blocks all calls from short codes. Short codes are special telephone numbers that are significantly shorter, five or fewer digits. Short codes are often used for marketing or promotions and therefore you may want to block them.
Automatically report your device location: You can specify how often your device contacts the server with the device’s location information. This is useful if your device is stolen or lost. Note that you can set this to Never.
Using Monitor and Control

Using Anti-Theft Features Anti-theft features include remote lock, remote wipe, and GPS tracking. To activate anti-theft features, contact your administrator.

The following features are supported for Junos Pulse on Windows Mobile Devices.
Using Backup and Restore Junos Pulse backs up contact and calendar appointment information to a central location. To restore data, you must contact your administrator. The administrator will initiate a restore in the form of an SMS command that tells your handset to contact the server to retrieve your backup.
