Welcome to 1979 Presents: Bands Banding Together A Live to Lathe Recording Project Do you want to be a part of something special? Good! We at Welcome To 1979 (an all analog recording studio in Nashville, TN) are looking to team up with 5 bands. The goal? Record and release 5 vinyl records in a very unique way: live, in-studio and directly to vinyl. This is how records were first made, and has been all but abandoned now because...well, it’s hard as hell. But the final product sounds awesome and is analog from start to finish. Truth be told, very few artists ever get the chance to make a record in this way. (This link describes the direct-to-disc lifestyle very well: http://berlinermeisterschallplatten.de/en/direct_to_disc) This project will be funded via a Kickstarter campaign. The goal of the project is for each band to record an album live to our vinyl cutting lathe over the span of two days. Each band’s album will be released on vinyl as part of Welcome to 1979’s new Live to Lathe vinyl series. Funds raised in the campaign will cover two days of studio time, recording engineers and studio support staff, recording media (lacquers), and 500 copies of the album on vinyl for each band. Sound good? Here’s how to get involved! Interested bands will complete a questionnaire to see if they are a good fit for this unique project. 15 finalists will be selected by the ’79 staff based on responses to the questionnaire. These 15 finalists will be featured in a voting poll on Welcome To 1979‘s Facebook page. Then, the 5 bands with the most votes at the end of a one month voting period will be selected to participate in the Kickstarter campaign. If you are interested in participating in this project, please complete the questionnaire here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/welcometo1979 Fine Print: Each band will: *Support Kickstarter campaign by promoting it via social media outlets, email, mailing lists, at shows, etc. *Cover own travel costs to come to Nashville for two days of recording. This includes all related costs (fuel, hotels, food, etc). *Travel to Nashville and complete two day recording session within 60 days of Kickstarter campaign being funded. *Be prepared to record 24-36 minutes of original material prior to entering contest to participate. This will be a live recording, so you must be tight! *Cover cost of album artwork design (jackets are provided). *Donate 50 records to fulfill incentive packages for Kickstarter backers (50 records to campaign, 450 records to band to keep and sell for profit). *Donate merch for Kickstarter incentive packages. *Cover cost of shipping albums if they will be shipped somewhere outside of Nashville. Welcome to 1979 will: *Provide 2 days studio time per band, including engineers and support staff. *Donate items for Kickstarter incentive packages. *Support Kickstarter campaign by promoting it via social media outlets, email, mailing lists, etc. *Provide 10 lacquers (5 per side) for each band. *Launch and manage Kickstarter campaign throughout. *Fulfill incentives for Kickstarter backers. *Handle all logistics of getting records pressed (deliver lacquers to plant, communicate with plant, etc.).
