Your Reps

Management were due to start consultation over the closure of Kings Place and relocation of staff on 3 March. This was postponed at the last minute when management discovered that Puddledock (the proposed destination for 88 of the 324 affected staff) will not be ready until 16 months after Kings Place is set to close. Management are considering alternatives, with consultation now planned to commence on 7 March. It is currently proposed that Kings Place staff will move to Eversholt St, Puddledock, Cotton Centre or MK

Why are we being split up? Out of 324 people in Kings Place, 169 would go to the Quadrant, with the remainder being split up around the London offices. In open meetings between staff and your reps it’s been suggested that the logic for deciding who stays in London is inconsistent, with some teams being relocated to MK despite having London based customers or stakeholders. As many posts do not need a fixed office, forcing people to move or face redundancy is, in the words of one member, “out of the stone age”!

How can I help? Your reps from across the business are continuing to hold open meetings for affected staff in Kings Place. We managed to secure jobs in the recent MEP programme because people came forward to fight flawed proposals. You can help by doing the same, by helping to gather colleagues’ feedback, building clear arguments or getting involved in consultation. If your department doesn’t have a rep already, please speak to your colleagues about becoming a team contact or an Area Council Rep (see http://bit.ly/nr13election for details)

Travel Chaos! Many concerns relate to travel proposals. Management intend to reuse the controversial “Milton Keynes people process”. This prevented staff from following their work if it involved more than 90 (Bands 1-4) or 75 (5-8) minutes travel from home to work. Your reps have already asked Network Rail to substantiate the reasons behind the travel limits. We will fight to ensure that staff are able to follow their work with support from the business. Travel restrictions have not been applied in other reorganisations since the closure of 40 Melton Street and move to MK so “consistency” is no excuse. Many facing a move within London could see an increase in travel costs if they currently walk or cycle to work. Your reps will work to ensure you are compensated for any additional travel costs or travel time as appropriate.

What if I’m not a member? All staff are welcome to attend staff meetings with TSSA reps but if you want to have further input into the process or be supported if any issues arise relating to relocation or redundancy as a result of the move, you’ll need to be a member.
