A Note From Our Principal Dear Mustang Family, School started on the 11th of August, and we are now at the first of September. Midterms will be in a couple of weeks, with progress reports available on the 11th of September. Please let Mrs. Vickie Johnson know if you need a hard copy. Skyward is up and running with grades, so be sure to take a look. Google Classroom should be up and running, as well, for every classroom. If you have access, have your student show you their classrooms. We have begun our athletic competitions. Athletes are working hard, and we have seen some good things happening. Please look at the calendar to see when we play at home, and come out and support your favorite Mustang teams. We are trying to minimize food and drinks in the gyms to help alleviate damage to the floor and bleachers. Please try to finish all items before coming into the gyms. Remember that Lakewood is a non-smoking facility; that includes the parking lot and fields. We appreciate your understanding of our no smoking policy. Thank you for your help and patience with dropping off and picking up your students. As we continue to work on picking up, there are plenty of spaces to park. Please leave the handicapped parking spots for those who truly need it. Remember the right lane is for families who want to go past the sidewalk and through the stop sign. The left lane is for turning and going past the front of the building. ACT Aspire Testing will be September 8th—12th. This is a new test for our students aligned with the ACT and can tell us if students are where they should be to be ready to take the ACT when they are in high school. It will also help us work on differentiation with students who many need extra support or push students who need more rigor. We have had a great start to the year with students being on task, on time to class, and using their planners when they need to leave class. We did an evacuation drill to Great Plains on Wednesday, August 30th, and the students did great. We got there quickly, and they handled themselves extremely appropriately. Have a great September, and enjoy the fall weather coming in. Principal Bonnie Welty
It is that time of year again for our annual school fundraiser! This year, we have transitioned to selling Mustang Spirit Wear through FanCloth.com to hopefully increase profits and our ability to do more for our students. Similar to last year, this money is put towards purchasing items for the Stang Store where students spend their Mustang Moolah for tangible items and was also used to bring in the bouncy-houses, DJ, etc. on the last day of school. This catalog has items starting at as low as $15.00 We’d love to have every student sell at least one item each, which would profit in at $7,200.00 raised for the school! Of course, the more items sold, the more money the school receives to continue to do great things for our students! On top of raising money for Lakewood, students have the opportunity to earn free name brand items by sharing and selling from their catalog. Please click here to access our online catalog, where you can log-on and take orders (or order for yourself) without the hassle of check/cash. This link can be sent to family/friends as well, just make sure they list your student as the “student they are ordering on behalf of.” Hard copies of catalogs and order forms will be sent home with students on Tuesday, September 5th or can be printed from the pages below.
Please make sure to collect all payment from all orders before turning in your order form by the due date of Friday, September 15. We know many of these items would make great gifts for birthday, Christmas, etc. If you’d like to buy an item for your student as a surprise, please list “Bonnie Welty” as the “student you are ordering on behalf of” when ordering your item online or contact Tiffany Patrick in the front office—
[email protected] or (785) 309-3978—to place an order that will not be sent home with your student's final order. We will hold your item in the office for you to pick up, so the student does not know about the item! We are looking forward to seeing the potential of this new fundraiser and the opportunities we will be able to provide students with this profit!
School Policy Reminders Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Passenger loading zones are designated around the Lakewood Building. These areas should be used loading and unloading. Students should be dropped off and picked up at the bike rack entrance. Please refer to the diagram on the next page for the proper morning drop-off procedure. Please remember students should not be dropped off any earlier than 6:45 a.m.
Activity and Athletics Student Eligibility Students must be passing in five subjects of unit weight on a bi-weekly basis. Monitoring will be on a weekly basis, but students will be allowed to continue to participate until being placed on the ineligible list for two consecutive weeks. Once removed from the list, a student would again have to be on the list two consecutive weeks before being withdrawn from competition. Teachers must notify students when they are failing. Teachers will submit a list of failing students to the office each week. Activity supervisors will receive a list of failing students.
