ok, here you’ve got the pattern! i scanned the small image on the book " Patterns of fashion 2" by Janet Arnold, i resized to make it wearable for a scandinavian 38-40 ( in italy is 42). it was a really hard work with photoshop and posterazor, but in the end i got a real bolero from that little image! i admit, i made some changes in the one you see in the photos: smaller sleeves, larger shoulder holes and neckline, but i decided to upload the original 1863 pattern so you can use it for costumes too! anyway, it’s very very easy to make, you just have to sew together the pieces and then you can add bows, lining, buttons, braid..as you like!
2M Materials
quite heavy fabric
Step 1 — LA VESTE ESPAGNOLE
print the 6 sheets pattern, i couldn’t add the pages number but there are very simple shapes, you can compose them watching the image down here. remember that seam allowances are NOT included!
then you can cut the fabric and simply stitch toghether all the pieces, the 3 back pieces before, and then the 2 fronts and the
sleeves. the size should be about a 38 (italian 42), but it’s a 1863 design so shapes probably needs to be a little adapted to your
body. my first bolero for example had larger neckine and shoulder holes, and shorter sleeves…it’s up to you adding lining, braids, ribbons, buttons or everything you like! have a nice time!
