Jan. 21, 1922: Lincoln MacCauley Alexander was born in Toronto to the son of West Indian immigrants. 1930’s: Attended Earl Grey Public School and Riverdale Collegiate in Hamilton.

1942–45: Joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War.

1949: Graduated from McMaster University with a BA in economics and history. 1953: Graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School.

1968: First Black MP in Canada – 1972, 1979, and 1980.

1979–80: First Black Cabinet Minister. 1985–91: Ontario’s 24th Lieutenant Governor, first Black person to hold this office in Canada. 1991–07: Chancellor of the University of Guelph. 1992: Appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada, and to the Order of Ontario. 1996–03: Chairman, Canadian Race Relations Foundation.
