DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND TASKS ITService is a new company without any IT infrastructure. You recruited as a PC/Network technician for that company. They company ordered you to assembly the computer, install the operating system and to build the network to connect those computers to Internet and setup several services. You’ve already received the specifications for the project. You need to build the system, so the network have several configuration to support application services, security implementation, and bandwidth management. As addition you need to synchronize a time client and server for their job time and to provide service for their new coming video conferencing application.

Part 2 – PC Router Assembly and BIOS Information 1. Assembly all components of PC Router above, then boot the PC. Observe the booting process. Don’t forget to follow the safety procedurs. 2. Set up the BIOS completely ready to install the server Operating System. 3. Set BIOS supervisor/user password. Note: The password will be given during competition. 4. Fill in the table below based on information in BIOS:

SECTION 2 – OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION Part 3 – PC Router Operating System Installation 1. Install Linux Debian 5.0 operating system in PC Router. Don’t install graphical user interface (GUI) such as KDE, GNOME, etc. 2. Set Host name, Root password, and IP address of network. Note: Host name, Root password, and IP address of network card will be given during competition.

Part 4 – PC Server Operating System Installation

1. Setup PC Server with the operating system same as operating system for PC Router. Don’t install graphical user interface (GUI) such as KDE, GNOME, etc. 2. Set Host name, Root password, and IP address of network card. Note: Host name, Root password, and IP address of network card will be given during competition.

Part 5 – Laptop Client Operating System Installation

1. Install Windows 7 Operating System in Laptop Client. Ensure that all components needed are correctly installed. 2. Create 2 formatted partitions as follow: -

3. Install network card driver 4. Set Laptop client as follows: -

SECTION 3 – CABLING AND ACCESS POINT Part 6 – Cabling

1. Make a crossover cable with ± 2 meters long then give label “CO-xx” near to each connector (xx is competitor’s number). 2. Make a straighthrough cable with length according to distance from PC Router and switch, then give label “ST-xx” near to each connector (xx is competitor’s number) standard T568B.

Part 7 – Network Installation

Setup networks according to the figure 1 below:

Part 8 – Wireless Access Point Configuration Configure the Wireless Access Point as follows: -

Set IP address of Access Point

Set WPA-PSK authentication.

Set SSID.

Set SSID broadcast “disable”.

Set MAC address filtering to allow only Laptop client.

Note: The IP address, WPA-PSK authentication, and SSID will be given during competition.

SECTION – PC ROUTER CONFIGURATION Part 9 – Router Configuration

1. Configure PC Router to allow PC Server connect Internet. 2. Write the modification or configuration you have done in the paper given by Judge. Part 10 – Firewall Configuration 1. Configure iptables firewall to allow DHCP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, FTP, IMAP, POP, and Squid ports – deny all other services. 2. Configure iptables firewall to allow only Admin’s computer to access PC Server. 3. Write the modification or configuration you have done in the paper given by Judge. SECTION 5 – PC SERVER CONFIGURATION Part 11 – DHCP Server Configuration 1. Configure DHCP Server with valid available IP address which needed to connect to Laptop Client. 2. Write the modification or configuration you have done in the paper given by Judge. Part 12 – DNS Server Configuration 1. Configure DNS Server with domain: -

Configure Proxy Server to allow only ‘whitelist accessed’ of website from Laptop client using ACL (access control list). Note: List of website will be given during competition 2. Configure Proxy Server to access Internet using username and password (nontransparent mode). Note: Username and password will be given during competition. 3. Configure Proxy Server to limit bandwidth for download 4. Add web-based tool to monitor used proxy activity. 5. Write the modification or configuration you have done in the paper given by Judge.

Part 18 – Time Synchronization

1. Set NTP Server service. Use local clock as time server source. 2. Synchronize Laptop client time with the NTP Server time in PC Server. SECTION 6 – NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTING Part 19 – Fixing Network Connection 1. Something in Windows 7 installed in Laptop Client will be changed or modified by Judge so that Laptop Client cannot connected to PC Server. Fix the problem. 2. Write the solution you have done in the paper given by Judge.
