This tutorial will cover what the design and test engineer needs to know about LSI Testing. Emphasis will be placed on the understanding of device operation and equipment needs to adequately test LSI. The session includes:
TEST EQUIPMENT-Phil Burlison, Fairchild Describes and analyzes the major hardware and software elements of LSI test system architecture. Pattem generators, truth tables, simulation, emulation, compilers, interpreters, etc. are evaluated in relation to their part in the development and execution of an LSI device test. b. MICROPROCESSOR TESTING- Wayne Sohl, Macrodata Reviews three microprocessor-related devices: an 8-bit microprocessor; a peripheral interface adapter; and an asynchronous serial communications interface. The function of each device is reviewed, and a comprehensive functional test plan is developed. a.

MEMORY TESTING-Warren Fee, Adar Associates Example characterization data is presented, depicting various RAM operating anomalies. Pattem sensitivities are explored in terms of the device failure mechanisms.
d. RELIABILITY- William Fitzgerald, Electronic Test Center Device bum-in is presented as a practical means to improved reliability. Data on failure mechanism distribution is presented to support the conclusions.
