Upcoming Events Shards of Alara Prerelease: September 27 and 28 The Sentry Box will be holding a two day prerelease for Shards of Alara! Come on down for a chance to get your hands on all of the new cards a week before the release date. Each participant gets a free foil Ajani Vengeant (a Mythic Rare Planeswalker)! The Sealed Deck tournaments begin at 12:00, $25 to enter. Shards of Alara Release Party: October 4 A week after the prerelease, Shards of Alara is on sale, and we’re celebrating. This is another sealed tournament, but with a twist! Again, Ajani Vengeants for all. The tournament begins at 12:00, $25 to enter. Friday Night Magic: September 5, 12, 19 and 26 As usual, booster draft the first three Fridays, then 2HG Sealed on the 26th. Be there! The tournament begins at 6:30, $16 to enter.

The promo foil for August FNM is Thirst for Knowledge! When was the last time they printed a blue instant that can net you more than one card? The answer is Mirrodin block! Thirst for Knowledge is in a special class of cards that can gain card advantage without requiring any main-phase commitment of mana. Elder Dragon Highlander: September 13 Grand Melee Multiplayer at the Sentry Box, on the second Saturday of each month! The official rules of EDH are here, with some Sentry Box house rules, seen below. The tournament begins at 12:00, $5 to enter. In addition to the official banned list, the following cards will be banned: Shahrazad Palinchron Changes to the General rules: To avoid conflicts, there will be no restrictions in terms of reserving your General. Any number of players may play the same General, and their opponents may play that card in their decks. Instead, all Generals have protection from the ‘Legend rule’. Example: Crosis, the Purger is in play, and its controller’s opponent plays her General (which happens to be Crosis, the Purger). The non-General Crosis will be put into the graveyard, and the General will stay in play. The next player, on his turn, plays his General (which happens to be Crosis, the Purger). Both Purgers will stay in play.
