MAKE EVERY REP COUNT III Objective: Unite the Valley-area fitness community around the cause of supporting five outstanding local charities: Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, MaDee Project, Staunton/Augusta/Waynesboro Boys and Girls Club, WARM (Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry), and the Cornerstone Youth Empowerment Foundation. “Make Every Rep Count” (MERC) uses the forum of competitive weightlifting in order to raise funds and generate awareness for these deserving organizations. Last year, 27 competitors raised more than $8,500 given generously by local businesses and private donors. The goal of Make Every Rep Count III is to engage 40 athletes and raise $9,500 in charitable donations to help make our community stronger! Athletes “qualify” for MERC by making a personal donation of $25 or more to their chosen charity, and paying a $20 contest entry fee. Each athlete is required to enlist two or more business and/or private sponsors who make a flat donation or pledge a donation(s) based on pounds the athlete lifts or reps completed during competition. Sponsor options: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Squats – Athlete squats her “max weight”, sponsor pledges $.25 or more per pound lifted. Deadlift – Athlete pulls her “max weight”, sponsor pledges $.25 or more per pound lifted. Bench Press – Athlete presses her “max weight”, sponsor pledges $.50 or more per pound lifted. Power Clean – Athlete cleans 60% of her body weight for as many repetitions as possible in 60 seconds, sponsor pledges $2 or more per repetition. 5. Flat Donation – Sponsor may donate a flat amount of $25 or more to their favorite charity(ies).
The top-performing athletes in each devision earn a MERC gym bag with gifts from local sponsors. There will be five event winners across four divisions: Women’s 125lb Division, Women’s 150lb Division, Women’s 175lb Division, and Women’s Unlimited Division. The overall MERC winner will be the athlete with the greatest amount of dollars earned for her charity. The Make Every Rep Count event will be promoted via newspaper, social media, on charitable organization web pages, and the websites of participating sponsors. Posters and event flyers will be distributed via sponsors and athletes.

MAKE EVERY REP COUNT III About Our Charities The MaDee Project is a nonprofit foundation that provides support to pediatric cancer patients and their families in the Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County areas. The project will also nationally fund research in hopes of finding the cause and help to prevent pediatric cancers from reaching any other children. MaDee’s determination, love for her family and friends, as well as her strong spirit while battling this disease, became the inspiration of this project. If MaDee were physically here with us today, we feel confident, she would still be holding children under her wing, teaching, guiding and comforting them, especially those diagnosed with cancer. This project is our way of showing the community, MaDee’s legacy continues. She lives on...providing the children and their family with hope, help and healing. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is the largest organization alleviating hunger in Western and Central Virginia. In all, we serve 25 counties and eight cities on either side of the Blue Ridge through distribution centers in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Winchester and Verona. We provide nutritious food to 114,400 people each month through a far-reaching network of 215 food pantries, soup kitchens, schools, churches and nonprofit groups. We are members of Feeding America, a national organization supporting more than 200 food banks across the country, and the largest domestic hunger relief agency in the U.S. In 2009, Feeding America named the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank the Member of the Year for our outstanding program standards and efficiency. The Boys & Girls Club of Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County promotes the social, educational, health, leadership, and character development of boys and girls during critical periods of their growth. We provide: A safe place to learn and grow. Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals. Lifeenhancing programs and character development experiences. We provide programs and activities designed specifically for teenagers: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; Sports, Fitness and Recreation. The Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry provides support, temporary shelter or housing, and community development for homeless adults and families in the Waynesboro & Augusta County areas of Virginia. WARM's services are delivered through a winter rotating (thermal) shelter for homeless adults and a beautiful transitional housing facility for homeless women with children. WARM is a non-denominational, faith-based, and community driven organization that strives to help its community through experienced, professional, and compassionate care and support for the homeless. The Cornerstone Youth Empowerment Foundation located in Charlottesville provides programming and activities designed to help youth reach their goals and fulfill their highest potential. The Special Athlete’s Program, Teen Bootcamp, and Youth Empowerment Programs teach valuable life skills and behaviors, including commitment, communication, self-confidence, and healthy living.
