PRECISION MOTOR SPORTS S&S Carburetor Adjustment… Set carburetor to stock settings: Idle Mixture Screw (IMS), 1¼ turns from lightly seated; Idle Speed Screw (ISS), ½ turn clockwise from engagement point; Accelerator Adjustment Screw (AAS), two turns counter-clockwise from seated. Now start bike, bring to operating temp. Set ISS, clockwise to increase rpm, counter-clockwise to decrease rpm. Idle rpm range should be 950 to 1050 rpms. Adjust idle mixture by turning IMS slowly clockwise until the engine runs poorly. Slowly turn the screw counter-clockwise until it runs smoothly—if you go too far the engine will start to stumble. With engine idling, turn AAS clockwise until it lightly seats. Snap throttle open—engine should stumble. Turn screw counter-clockwise ¼ or ½ of a turn at a time, until engine responds to throttle twist with smooth, quick response. Ride MC in various rpm ranges, and then maintain a consistent 40 to 50-mph. If the engine is popping or sneezing in the air cleaner it can indicate a lean condition. If you notice stumbling or sputtering it can indicate a rich condition. Low rpm operation is controlled by the intermediate jet. If bike coughs or pops below 3000 rpm’s the intermediate jet must be replaced with a larger sized (richer) jet. If the engine is sluggish or does not want to idle smoothly a smaller (leaner) intermediate jet needs to be installed. Always re-adjust the IMS and ISS after making a jet change. NOTE: Drag or straight pipes can prevent you from obtaining optimum carburetor performance. For open exhaust, dial in the air bleed jet that is internal in the S&S carburetor. 5119 SE 102nd PL Ste 203 (Located off Hwy 27/441, ½ Mi Behind Publix) Belleview, FL 34420 Shop: 352.245.3794 Cell: 352.408.0052 Jesse Stewart - Owner www.dragstews.com

Tales of a Traveling Airbrush “Face Forward Exhaust” Standing elbow to elbow at the recent Full Throttle Bike Builders Invitational show with the artists that use steel, paint and leather to strain the concept of bike building to a new level of extreme that evolves every time they get together to show off is the perfect illustration for how genius works in community. One innovative manner for suspension receives accolades from all viewers and is sure to spark an idea hibernating in another cerebellum. A doubly functional decorative tube proves to be a stunning way to not only introduce strength to the piece but serves as a reservoir for fuel. As I stroll down the rows of interesting bikes, I partake the poetry in chrome, polished aluminum, cast fiberglass, luminescent paint, delicate pinstripes and intricate art that compliment the engineering rivaling rocket science. True genius is neither captured fully by inspiration nor perspiration but by the right kind of collaboration. The key to genius does not only reside in brilliant people having creative thoughts but in creating the right kind of cultural environment, like the Bike Builders Invitational, for innovation. Like the evolution of bike building, the momentum of creativity also continues at the Letterfly Institute as inspiration meets collaboration. When most people hear the word Letterfly, they immediately think of the hand painted murals and pinstripe mastery the artist is known for. But there is much more to Letterfly than meets the eye. During the brief wintertime break in the routine of service to bikers at customer dedicated Harley-Davidson stores nationwide, I return to the turbulent intellectual environment of the think tank where new ideas are born as much through friction and engagement of community as through the contemplation and solitude of an individual. In the creative maelstrom that is the Letterfly Institute, at the level of thought and inspiration at least, the boundaries between self and others are a lot more fluid than fixed. Creativity spans virtually every area of interest, and duty extends to a great portion of the population with a perpetual source of ideas. Now with the increased opportunity to interact with the great minds at the institute, I am reminded that ideas live less in the minds of individuals than in the interactions of whole communities. At the Letterfly Institute, good ideas are not singular inventions of the mind but amalgamations of other ideas, insights, and hunches that have been gathered from around the intellectual's environment. And like the radical builders, connection with a network of great thinkers and brilliant minds coalesce with the end result being breakthroughs and innovation in several areas including the technical, commercial, literary and psychological fields. The realm of ingenuity spans scientific thinking on a quantum subatomic level, remains poised in an advisory capacity for world policy, acts as lookout for the ever expanding humor division and provides intellectual fodder to the research/inventors team proactively involved with the improvement of existing, and development of new products. Breakthroughs taking place have launched advancement of the exhaust system for a motorcycle that will surely receive accolades from safety experts and members of the motorcycle crowd. rider now magazine q32 qridernowmagazine.com

Tales of a Traveling Airbrush “Face Forward Exhaust” Consider for a moment the biker as trajectory traveling through an unpredictable environment that needs to be aware of his presence. Combining the premise “loud pipes save lives” with the sensibility of getting the decibels out in front of the motorcyclist, where they are needed, the Letterfly Institute has designed front facing exhaust systems that come in three versions; straight face forward pipes, slight bell face forward pipes and for the most safety conscious of all, the “Loud Mouth” face forward pipes that feature a bell shape that will Mega-amplify engine noise much like the natural amplification of a trombone. The engine noise directed in front of the motorcycle enthusiast will help to alert other drivers of his presence. The first obvious question that comes to mind for even the beginning motorcyclist has to do with the influence of back pressure on the release side of the engine with this radical design, especially with the large bell shape pipes. As you are well aware, the V-twin engine thrives best when the environment that includes the back pressure is tuned to remain in an ideal range. Scientists at the institute have developed several breakthrough manners to alleviate the dynamic for this innovative exhaust system. A computer model optimized the selection of locations for ventilation louvers strategically placed past the turn forward bends in the exhaust pipe to provide pressure relief at the right place without interfering with the sound waves being directed forward through the tubing. Tests in the wind tunnel confirmed the correct locations that also facilitate the elimination of exhaust gasses. As the oncoming air increases in density proportionate to the ground speed achieved, the louvers, that until now, have remained inactive, allow adequate relief when needed with the back pressure remaining optimal. The beauty of this mechanically streamlined solution resides in no moving parts and the details make the heavily chromed parts quite handsome. Another idea, already in use on many over-the-road trucks, is being borrowed for the “Loud Mouth” version. The deflector disc that covers the bell of the air horn typically mounted on top of the truck cab has a flat surface that actually acts like a drum head amplifying and transferring the sound waves that continue in the intended direction and the back pressure of the exhaust gas that escapes around the perimeter is not affected in the least. Sure to revolutionize motorcycle safety and heighten aesthetics with this desirable and radical design, the results of having engine noise naturally amplified and directed out in front of the rider will effectively alert other motorists and the entire community as to the whereabouts of the motorcycle insuring greater safety as the result. While standing with several of the builders at the recent custom bike invitational, I had an opportunity to share this idea as they were getting their radically designed rolling works of art detailed and on display. After giving me their attention for an adequate amount of time to hear my pitch, prior to returning to the focus of their attention, in unison, as their eyes met one another and then quickly scanned back to me, I received their blessing as they affirmed “good luck with that”

On The Straight Path

By Bifer

LEADING TO THE MAIN EVENT Well folks here we are. Spring time is on the horizon. With this crazy winter we have had, it seems almost like spring is already here. This past weekend we had a cold ride into the capitol in Tallahassee. It was 21degrees that morning, and the next day it was in the high seventies. What the heck? With that I will give a quick ABATE plug. Abate is still working on the stiffer penalties bill, so we can stop getting run over on our bikes and the other guy walks away with a $70.00 ticket. Also they are working on some things regarding anti discrimination for those of us who where a patch and can not go into some locations. That is getting old even for us not wearing an MC patch. So if you ride a bike you might consider supporting ABATE, our only motorcycle rights group in the state. Okay enough of that. Daytona Bike Week is on the way. A lot of people say they are tired of Bike week but for me it is a main event. We have thousands of people come in to town riding their bikes all over for a week and a half. We have hard core bikers, weekend warriors, MC’s and people who just drive over to watch. There is a blend of all types of people and we get to talk to them all.. For CMA this is one of our biggest events in the state. We get to do what we do best, share God’s love with the world and bless a lot of bikes. On to this months lesson. Last month we talked about the fact that God is the creator and we are the created. We are mere humans in a body of flesh and God is all powerful and magnificent. He is everywhere and we are where we are. This month we will talk about his perfection and our being imperfect. Can we be perfect you? Well of course we can’t be. Nobody is perfect, we all know that. Except Jesus of course. He was perfect when he came to the earth. So lets start with that, God’s perfection. It says in the bible in Deuteronomy 32:3-5- “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he”. God is perfect, that is that. Now what about Jesus being perfect? Real simple, it’s all about the virgin birth. You see all man is born in imperfection. Ever since Adam and Eve. When Adam disobeyed God he brought SIN upon all man kind. Therefore we are all born with SIN. Yes there it is. That word we all hate to hear, SIN. Man is born with sin. You see, it transfers to the child from the father in the blood. That is why Mary had to be impregnated by the spirit of God. Jesus was able to be born with out sin because his father was the perfect God. Cool aye. Very simple. So man is born with sin. Jesus was born perfect. Therefore we are all sinners. In order for us to spend eternity with God we must also be perfect. This way we can look at God face to face. In Exodus 33 Moses asked God to allow him to see his Glory and God said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live”. Our sin separates us from God. We are unable to stand in his presence. So how are we made perfect? On our own we can not be. Jesus took your sins and mine onto himself and gave up his life. His life was sacrificed to pay the penalty for our SIN. We must trust in that so we can see God. More on that next month. The point this month is-that God is perfect and we are imperfect. Jesus can make us clean. It is that simple. Hope to see you in Daytona and on the Road. Be blessed. If you have any question feel free to contact me. Info in the front of the mag. Later. God’s kid, Bifer
