Maha Shivaratri Celebrations
March, 2009 HARI OM February was a very busy month at the temple. We celebrated the 5th anniversary of the arrival of Lord Balaji and Sri Mahalakshmi deities. The celebrations began on Thursday Feb 12th, 2009 with Ganesh Puja, Kalasha Stapana, Punyavachana. Ganesha abhishekam was performed. The second day began with the abhishekam of Sri Mahalakshmi reciting the Sri Sukhtam which was recited during the churning of the ocean by Lord Indra and all the devatas. We believe that even today whoever recites this mantra receives whatever they seek from Sri Mahalakshmi; whoever wants wealth will receive wealth, the ignorant will receive knowledge, one with poor health will get good health and the childless will get children. She is the giver of wealth and makes all her devotees healthy, wealthy and prosperous. Lalitha Sahastranama and devi bhajans were recited as is done on every Friday at the temple. On Saturday, Feb 14th, 2009, Lord Balaji abhishekam was performed reciting all the vedic stotras. Venkatesh stotram was recited by the priests and all the devotees. After the abhishekam, the Lord was decorated with flower garlands, silver crown and all the beautiful offerings brought by all the devotees. Devotees sang bhajans in praise of Lord Balaji and were very happy seeing the Lord beautifully decorated. The celebrations concluded on Feb 15th, 2009 with the reciting of Venkateshwara Sahastranamavali (the thousand names of Lord Venkateshwara); rashtriya ashirvadam and astavadan was also done by Swamiji on the final day and all the devotees followed him reciting the names. Prayers were performed for the economic prosperity of all the nations in the world. Swamiji motivated all the devotees and said that the pains of today will bear the gains of tomorrow. People should not lose heart and keep faith in themselves and most importantly, in the Lord. Mahaprasadam was served each day. Food was prepared by temple volunteers. Many devotees took deeksha and some of them sponsored the different abhishekam according to their wishes. In spite of the rain and cold weather, the temple was packed with devotees and their famililies including small children. Bhajans and keertans were sung by devotees. Mahashivratri was celebrated on Sunday Feb 22, 2009 at the temple. The celebrations started with Kalasha Stapanah and Sri Rudrabhishekam at 6AM on Sunday and lasted through out the day and night. It concluded with Purnahuti and Sri Rudrabhishekam at 6AM on Monday. Devotees visited the temple through out the period to participate in the different pujas being performed. Devotees sang Shiva strotams and bhajans in praise of Lord Shiva. The Shiva Lingam was decorated with the Kavacha donated by Smt. Phani and Sri. Ramakrishna Yadlapalli Balaji Temple was granted the Conditional Use permit for the Alviso site by the City of San Jose. This marks an important milestone for the temple. We can now proceed with the Building and Construction permit approval process. We need your support for the construction of the temple. Your donation either, lump sum or period contribution (monthly or quarterly which ever is convenient for you) is highly appreciated. All donations are fully tax-deductible. --Balaji Temple board
