Dear King Parents and Community Members, March is the month that planning for the 2017-2018 school year begins in earnest. We are receiving many permits for King Elementary through the permit process. Many of these families heard about us from one of you. Thank you for your positive endorsements of our school and our teachers. Our goal at King Elementary and in District 11 is to ensure you as a community are informed and an integral part of the education of our students. This newsletter is one of many other forums we utilize to share news and events, we also utilize https://www.facebook.com/king.d11/ and http://king.d11.org/ This is an especially busy time, with many different opportunities to be involved: March 13th – PTA and School Accountability Meetings (5:00 in the minigym): Agenda items will include planning a movie night event, community garden opportunity at King, and future tech purchases for our personalized learning initiative. March 14th – 2nd Cup of Coffee with the Principal (8:10 in the minigym): This is an opportunity to check in with me (Mr. Lehman) to bring any concerns or questions to our attention. I will also be sharing out some of the great work and events taking place at King. March 16th – Social Media Awareness event (6:00 in the gym): Doherty SRO, Brian Uebelhoer, will be presenting to parents about how to support your children when it comes to social media and the internet. We will provide child care if needed (please call the office to RSVP). He will also be presenting to 4th and 5th grade student on March 17th. In April we will start our PARCC and CMAS assessments for students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Specifically, testing will take place each day during the first three weeks of April. In the April newsletter we will be sharing out information on how to support your students during the testing window. If you have any questions about our approach to assessment, do not hesitate to contact me (or come to the Coffee with the Principal event ). Once again we appreciate everyone’s support and the King community! I am honored to be able to serve and work alongside you as we create the best learning environment for students.
