Steps to Becoming a Lifeguard
National Lifeguards are highly skilled and trained individuals! To join our Aquatics Team you must be a minimum age of 16 and hold both your Lifeguarding and Standard First Aid certifications. See the steps below:

Join a team of young people with a passion for safety and perfection in first aid, lifesaving skills, physical fitness, leadership and teamwork. Earn credit towards the YMCA Learn to Swim Levels 5, 6 & 7 Advance lifesaving course designed to prepare participants for Bronze Medallion. Emphasis placed on rescue drills, fitness skills and victim recognition. Prerequisite: Star 3+ First step in advance lifesaving. Prerequisite: Current Bronze Star (no age requirement) or minimum age of 13. Second step in advance lifesaving. Prerequisite: Current Bronze Medallion. Builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge and values of the Lifesaving Society to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by lifeguards. Prerequisite: Minimum age of 16 at time of exam (must be age 16 to guard in NL) and hold Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, and CPR C. Recertification required every two years.

Building Fund Fee
The Building Fund Fee is a non-refundable fee for adults. This fee ($75/adult) is used to maintain the YMCA’s facility and equipment.
Note: All fitness and recreation areas close 15 minutes prior to building closure unless otherwise noted (aquatics programming is available on page 4 of the program schedule).
YMCA Access
YMCA issued membership cards (or Photo ID) are required to access the facility. Pre-authorization is required by non-members to accompany children under age 12 to and from swim lessons. Children ages 0-7 require adult accompaniment in the water. Both the child and adult must pay. Adults supervising children ages 8-11 must be prepared to pay should the lifeguard express any concerns regarding a child's swimming ability. Adults accompanying children to dry-land programs are not required to pay.

To cancel your membership written notification must be provided a minimum of 5 days prior to your payment date. Membership cards must be returned and the $25 cancellation fee paid. We are unable to accept cancellation requests by phone.

Cardio equipment, selectorized strength cables, free weights, TRX, foam rollers, free weights and more. Adaptive equipment also available. Must be minimum age of 12 to access the conditioning centre. Teens ages 12-15 must complete an orientation to access the conditioning centre.
Membership Holds
Memberships may be placed on hold for one month, up to a maximum of six months. Requests must be made a minimum of five days prior to payment date. Membership on hold requests are permitted once every 12-month period. Published membership fees will apply at the time of reactivation. Re-registration for swim lessons is required. Cancellation of membership not permitted while on hold. Passes are not eligible for holds.
Supervision of Children
Children under age 12 must be directly supervised by a parent/ guardian (16 years of age or over) at all times. Children participating in staff/volunteer led programs (including swim lessons) must be accompanied by their parent/ guardian to and from the program and signed in/out by the same PAGE 2

In this complimentary orientation, members will meet with a YMCA Fitness Staff to start them on a basic exercise routine involving cardio and strength machines. Teen members will also be taught proper etiquette and basic training principles to build

This class, held in the comfort of water, is designed for all fitness levels and is designed to improve your cardio, strength and range of motion.
Aqua Fit - Parent & Tot
All are welcome! Bring along your little one for an Aqua Fit class of cardiovascular training, toning and stretching. Child accompaniment optional.
Aqua Jog
Aqua jogging mimics the movement of jogging but without the impact. This class may take place in deep or shallow areas of the main pool.
Ball Fit
Use the stability ball to improve balance, flexibility and muscular endurance. Arrive early to set-up equipment.
Bars & Plates
A muscle conditioning class using a barbell and weighted plates. Weights are adjusted during class to provide appropriate resistance for various muscle
Body Blast
Specific muscle toning and conditioning exercises using free weights, stability balls and other fitness equipment.
Boot Camp
This low-choreography mixed impact class offers a challenge for all! Running, speed & agility work, weight training, jump rope, plyometrics and much more come together to create a powerhouse workout.
Core Fit
Strengthen your core through ab, lower back and glute exercises. This class incorporates a variety of equipment.
Core Strength & Stretch
Strengthen your core through ab and lower back exercises, finish this class with a total body stretch.
Forever Fit
This class will take you through gentle
HIIT
HIIT (high-intensity interval training) gets and keeps your heart rate up through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods.
Racquet Sports
Play a game of pickle ball and/or badminton. All levels welcome. Supervised.
Women's Ball Hockey
Join in a friendly game of ball hockey. Teams are determined prior to the start of each game. All skill levels welcome. Participants referee the games themselves.
Zumba®
Zumba is an exciting, high energy class suitable for people of all levels. It uses a combination of dance and aerobics that incorporates salsa, samba, mambo and even belly dancing moves. PAGE 3

Aqua Sport**
Children ages 6-12 are introduced to a variety of aquatic sports such as water polo, volleyball and more. Participants must be able to swim two lengths of the Main Pool. Supervised. Swim test mandatory.
Dash & Splash** / Swim & Gym**
Go from the track or the gym to swimming in the pool! Supervised. Swim test mandatory.
Family Swim
For families and adults accompanied with children. No lanes available.
Swim Lesson Descriptions
Lifeguard Club** (ages 10-14)
The Lifeguard Club is a chance to build a network of like-minded individuals with a passion for skill development and knowledge within the lifesaving community. Supervised.
Star Levels (6+ yrs)
Star 1-7. Due to the technical nature of Star Levels 3-7 children may be required to re-register for a level specific slot.
Steam Room
Sit back and relax. Available to members and guests age 19+.
Adult Swim Lessons Whether upgrading your skills or a first time swimmer, these lessons will help you meet your swimming goals. See next page for available times.
Tot Lessons (ages 0-2)
Parent participation required for these Splasher and Bubbler levels. No registration required. Children ages 3+ may be registered in our Staff supervised lessons.
Rolling Registration

Tot Time (ages 0-4)
Enjoy time in the Play Pool with your little one. For parents/guardians with children ages 0-4. Slide not available.

Progress Cards
Progress cards are available for pick-up after each lesson break. Note: Lessons will not go ahead on days when all schools are closed due to inclement weather. During lesson break all lesson time slots are Rec/Lane swims. There will be a Fall pool maintenance shutdown. Notification will be provided in advance.
Pool Supervision Guidelines
Children under age 12 must be directly supervised at all times. The additional guidelines apply to all pools, swims and parties: •
Children under age 8 must be within arm’s reach of a responsible person age 16+ in the water (1:1 or 1:3 in life jackets)

Children age 8-11 who can successfully complete the facility swim test (*swimmers) must be supervised by a responsible person age 16+ in the water or on deck (1:8)
•
Children age 8-11 who cannot successfully complete the facility swim test (non-swimmers) must be within arm’s reach of a responsible person age 16+ in the water (1:3 or 1:8 in life jackets)

Slow, medium and fast lanes are provided. A leisure lane is also available for those who wish to water walk, exercise or swim leisurely.
Due to the demand for swim lessons, children may either be registered for one time slot OR placed on a wait list.

Please note that all payment is due at the time of registration. Two weeks' notice is required to withdraw from any courses or to cancel party bookings. A nonrefundable administration fee (25% of the registration cost) is applicable to all cancellations and withdrawals.
