Washington, Pearson Prentice Hall. Prerequisites: Grade 11 Functions and Relations (University Preparation), or Grade 11 Functions (University/College Preparation), or equivalent. Note that this course is not available for degree credit for students who have successfully completed Grade 12 Advanced Functions, or equivalent. Classes: Monday 6:05pm-7:25pm, Wednesday 6:05pm-7:25pm. Room: TB 236. Tutorials: Wednesday 7:35pm-8:25pm. Rooms: Southam 402 TA: TBA Office hours: Mondays 5:00pm-6:00pm and Wednesdays 5:00pm-6:00pm. There will be 3 tests taken IN CLASS on February 5, March 5, and March 19. You are expected to take all the tests. There will be no make-up, early, or delayed tests. Only absences due to serious illness, jury duty, or extreme personal misfortune will be excused. Otherwise, any missed test will be counted as zero. You must pass the term work portion of the course in order to pass the course. Final Examination: This is a three hour exam scheduled by the University and will take place sometime during the examination period in April. It is the responsibility of each student to be available at the time of the examination. In particular, no travel plans for the examination period in April should be made until the examination schedule is published. Homework: Selected exercises, mainly from the text, will be assigned in class. In order to succeed in the course you must do the homework on a regular basis.

Sections to be covered: 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 5.1, 5.2, 5.4, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 7.1, 7.3, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, 11.5, 12.1, 12.2, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.5, 13.6, 15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 17.4. Some topics may be omitted or abbreviated. Calculator: You may use a non-programmable, non-graphing calculator for the tests and the final examination. I reserve the right to prohibit the use of any calculator. Math Tutorial Centre: Room HP 1160 (the tunnel junction to Herzberg and Steacie) is a drop-in centre where you can get one-on-one help from a math TA. They are usually open from 10:00 – 16:00. Please only contact me using your Carleton email account. Plagiarism and Cheating: Plagiarism is defined on page 48 of the undergraduate calendar as an instructional offense that occurs when a student uses or passes off "as one's own idea or product, work of another without expressly giving credit". This includes plagiarism involving material lifted from the Internet. Plagiarism is a serious offense. The penalties for students who have been found to have plagiarized are a failed grade at the least severe and suspension, expulsion or notation on transcripts for serious or repeated cases. Plagiarism is just one form of Cheating. All forms of cheating are taken very seriously and will be dealt with swiftly and severely. You may need special arrangements to meet your academic obligations during the term.
