Prerequisite: Satisfactory Placement test score or grade of “C” in Math 090 or equivalent. Not intended for transfer. Text: Elementary Algebra 2e by Michael Sullivan, III, Kathy Struve, and Janet Mazzarella. MyMathLab: MyMathLab is an online homework administrator. It has the ability to create unlimited homework problems based on problems from your text. In addition, it has a built-in tutorial feature complete with videos. Course Description: Designed to fill the need of the college student with less than one year of high school algebra or the student with a low retention of high school algebra. The objective of this course is to complete the equivalent of the first year of high school algebra in one semester. Attendance: Attendance is absolutely essential in order to succeed in this course. Therefore, attendance will be taken daily. If a class is missed, it is your responsibility to determine the material that was covered. Homework: Homework will be assigned each class. It is to be completed in MyMathLab . If you wish to discuss a problem during class, please put the section and problem number on the front board in the upper right hand corner so I know which problems to discuss. You will earn 125 points toward your final grade for your efforts. Exams: An exam will be given after every chapter. Thus, there will be 9 exams given during the semester. Each exam is worth 100 points with the exception of Exam #1, which is worth 50 points. If you cannot attend class the day an exam is to be administered, you must take the exam prior to the day it is scheduled. If you cannot take the exam prior to the scheduled date, then that exam score will be a zero. In addition to chapter exams, there will also be a comprehensive final exam worth 150 points. The final exam can be used to replace your lowest test score. For example, if your lowest test score is 70/100 and you receive 120/150 on the

final exam, then I will replace the 70 with 80 (since 120/150 = 80/100). However, if your lowest test score was 90/100, then I do not replace the lowest test score. In either case the final exam counts. The replacement policy does not apply to Exam #1. Student Conduct: All students are expected to adhere to the rules of student conduct as stated in the college catalog.
