Topics include: vectors and the geometry of space, vector functions, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, and some classical theorems - Green’s theorem, Stoke’s theorem and the divergence theorem. This material is covered in chapters 9 through 13 of the text. Prerequisites: MATH 10a and b or placement by examination. Students may take MATH 20a or 22b for credit, but not both. Evaluation: Homework and quizzes: 20 % Two midterm exams: 40 % Final exam: 40 % Important dates: Homework due: Sept 6, 13, 24; Oct 3, 10, 15, 22, 29; Nov 5, 12, 19, 26; Dec 3, 10 Quizzes: Sept 12; Oct 10, 24; Nov 28; Dec 5 Midterms: Sept 26; Nov 8 in class Homework policy: You may discuss the homework problems with other students in the class; but if you do, you should write on your homework submission the students with whom you discussed the assignment. (You do not need to mention any help you received from the TAs or instructor.) You may not copy the written work of another student or allow another student to copy your written work. Late homework will not be accepted.
