Office hours: 2-3:30 on Wednesdays, 11-12:30 on Thursdays in 709 Evans Hall. Telephone: (64)2-2150. Electronic mail : [email protected]. Web page: math.berkeley.edu/˜serganov All matters concerning enrollment in sections will be handled by the head TA, Ivan Matic (see webpage www.math1b.com, email [email protected]). Each week there will be a reading and problem assignment on the material of the Monday, Wednesday and Friday lectures, to be discussed in the section meeting. Quiz and exam material will be very closely related to the homework problems. There will be a quiz each week. It is very important to read the assigned material before each lecture. Never fall behind. The grade will be computed according to the following proportions: 30% for quizzes and homework, 15% for each of two midterms and 40% for the final. Makeup midterm exams will not be given; instead, the worse midterm will be dropped and its grade replaced by an appropriate fraction of the final exam grade, if this helps your total. You should be sure that your schedule permits you to take the final examination –no substitutions of date will be possible. Your final exam date is Friday, May 16, 8-11 am. Your exam group is 4. Readable exposition as well as correct answers will be required for full credit on quizzes and exams. Students are encouraged to use calculators and computers in class and for homework. But calculators will not be permitted (nor particularly useful) for the examinations and quizzes. The midterm exams are on Friday, February 22 and on Monday, April 7 during normal class hours. The assignments are from Stewart, Calculus, Single Variable Essential Calculus, Student Edition, Berkeley. (Answers to odd-numbered problems in this book are at the back of the book.)
