FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2013 Norwin School District to Graduate 389 Students at High School Ceremony NORTH HUNTINGDON — Norwin School District plans to graduate 389 students at a ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013. As of Friday at 3 p.m., the ceremony is scheduled to be held outdoors at Norwin Knights Stadium. The graduating seniors are clearly focused on the future and they are truly the leaders of tomorrow. Of the members in the Class of 2013, 86 percent will be attending a four-year college, two-year community college, business, trade, or technical school; 3 percent will be enlisting in the armed services; 6 percent will directly enter the world of work; and 5 percent are undecided, but they are determined to follow a productive and contributing pathway for future success. At commencement, the valedictorian and salutatorian, along with all honor graduates, will be recognized. National Honor Society members will also be visible as they wear honor cords representing the service hours they completed during their high school careers.

Scores of graduating seniors earned some type of scholarship for their academic or athletic excellence. These honors, as well as the list of all graduates, are published in the Class of 2013 Commencement Program.
Macy Divens John B. Rodgers Scholarship
Here are details about the Class of 2013: Number of Graduates: 389 Valedictorian: Allison Green Salutatorian: Lacie Werner John Bayard Rodgers Scholarship: Macy Divens “Most Outstanding Seniors”: Joshua Ellwood and Alayna Sanderson. This is an annual honor decided by a majority vote of the faculty with criteria being excellence in academics, leadership, community involvement and citizenship. Also, Vespers was held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in the high school auditorium. During this time of reflection, several seniors shared inspirational messages and readings about graduation and the future. Vespers speakers included Carmen Buffalini (Opening Remarks), Luke Vorce (Pledge of Allegiance), Nicole DelBene (Welcome), Selections by the Vespers Choir, Kayla Albert (Reading), Abigail Pristas (Address), a musical selection performed by Mitchell Straub, Tyrell Greenwood (Reading), Sarajane Meyers (Address), Mariah Brandon (Reading), and Cameron Taylor (Closing Remarks). At Commencement, friends and family of the graduates will also hear the Commencement speakers give their final farewells to Norwin High School. The seniors speaking at Commencement are Macy Divens (Opening Remarks), Nicholas Brady (Pledge of Allegiance), Joshua Ellwood (Welcome), Corinne Dally (Address), Alayna Sanderson (Awards and Achievements), Allison Green (Reading), Rachel Karl (Address), Nathaniel Andreyko (Acceptance of Diplomas and Farewell), and Marissa Huss (Closing Remarks). These commencement speakers were chosen for their eloquence, facial expression, articulation, posture, vocal variety, and eye contact throughout an audition process. The senior class advisor is teacher Ms. Lori Anselmino, assisted by teacher Ms. Kathleen O’Halloran. ###
