A word from the host school - Firbank Grammar School
The School has embarked upon its digital journey understanding that this is the medium of our time that inspires and motivates our young people to learn. Firbank Grammar School is a multi campus school comprising two Junior School campuses (one all girls and one co- educational), a Senior School and a Boarding School. Founded in 1909 and situated in the bayside suburb of Brighton, its mission is to create an environment where all students find their place, now and for the future. The School has strong links with the Anglican Church and a proud history of providing an education that emphasises the Christian values of good citizenship, community service and self-discipline. The students’ experience is shaped by the School’s tradition of academic success and relevant life enriching values. Diversity of background and experience is welcomed and accepted as an integral element of the School’s culture.
Learning at Firbank is inspiring and challenging, as we understand the potential of applying technology to enhance students’ learning. Today, technology and learning are in a perpetual relationship. eLearning is the predominant pedagogy of our time. The shift from the more traditional forms of learning to learning with and through technology has been profoundly influenced by the world in which we live. New technologies infuse daily life. The digital resources available to our students allow them to connect with a global community, anywhere and at any time. The pace and nature of learning has been and is changed by the emerging technologies. As educators we embrace these changes, which help us to shape the future as we work with our students to develop knowledge and understanding. Our approach is holistic, based on an understanding of the realities of living and working in a digital world. Firbank’s response to the challenges presented has been to build a sound flexible platform from which to operate, explore and navigate foreseeable changes. The School provides a technology-rich environment responding to a curriculum built around knowledge based programs which involve critical thinking and problem solving. This allows students the best opportunities to develop the skills and practice to equip them for life-long learning. The resources provided include PC and Mac computer labs as well as pods where students can engage in self-paced learning. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards, which utilise the convergence of many different forms of technology, Students in every subject discipline Celebrate the close of have access to learning devices that allow them to research the conference with and organise and create and present, from school and from drinks and canapés home with 24-hour access. The underpinning value system during Stephen of the School gives students a framework within which to Heppell’s virtual live make responsible choices and decisions in a digital world keynote address where clear boundaries are not always defined.
