Michigan Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Skills Academy Program Title: Birding Basics Program Date: Saturday, April 8, 2017 Program Time: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Program Location: Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center, 34270 County Road 652, Mattawan, MI 49071 Program Fee: $20 Program Description: Joins us for this exciting program that will participants through the basics of learning how to identify birds in the field using field marks, size, shape, song, behavior, habitat and more. A basic overview of optics and field guides will also be provided by Audubon Society of Kalamazoo member Kent Martin. There will be a classroom portion followed by a field portion walking the trails around the ponds at the fish hatchery. What will be provided / What will participants need to provide: Refreshments and a complimentary field guide will be provided. Participants should bring binoculars, any personal field guides they wish to use and dress appropriately for the weather. Some binoculars will be available on loan. The outdoor portion will take place rain or shine. Space is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis.
