CAPT. CHIQUITA SAYS... Welcome back for some more wisdom from the Captain. This week's edition will deal with getting over the hump. We are four games into the season and there are varying states of emotion at this point. Some teams are rolling along in dominant fashion as they predicted, while others appear to have no idea where their rudder is or how to read the compass to get out of the winless funk they are in. There are a variety of ways to handle these situations… If your team isn't winning, shake up the lineup or positions on the field. Now is the time to find out who is good where, because its no secret that this league is all about the playoffs….Just ask Cobra Kai… They were the Buffalo Bills of the kickball world, until last season. For two consecutive seasons they would demolish the field during the regular season and then get knocked off in the playoffs. Or, your team could show up at the playoffs and find out the other team doesn't have enough players to field a team (stings a little doesn't it Mullets), and get a win by forfeit. There are plenty of games left to be played, so don't get down if you are toting that goose egg in the win column. Really, it's the teams that have a tie on their record that should be pissed. At least a win or a loss is closure. A tie is like a cell phone dropped in an empty toilet. Yeah, you went down and got it in time, but do you really have use for it now? But I digress, there are a couple of attitude adjustments coming up for kickballers. The midseason party and kickball dance off are fastly approaching and will provide opportunities for teams to shine off the field. As far as on the field, remember, it's just kickball

Here are some clarifications on rules for situations that have come up so far this season: 1. The ball must bounce twice BEFORE it reaches home plate. If it does not then it is a ball. 2. In the time between the last bounce before crossing home plate and reaching the kicker, the ball cannot bounce higher than one foot to the bottom of the ball. 3. All players must be behind the 1st-3rd line until the ball is kicked. First infraction is a warning. Subsequent infractions result in the kicker be rewarded first base automatically. 4. A kicker running to first base may overrun the base, and can turn either way to get back to first base safely. Only if the runner makes an active attempt to run to second may he/she be tagged out. 2
WEEK FOUR GAME RECAPS Cobra Kai – 11 (4-0) vs. Blue Ballers – 1 (0-3-1) Blue Ballers made every attempt possible to try to take down the mighty Cobra Kai, but in the end just came away with another blank in the win column. After allowing the first run against them all season, Cobra Kai got down to business and showed why they are the team to beat out here. With 2 men on in the 5th inning and the Blue Ballers threatening to score again, Amber Edington came up with a clutch catch in left center to end the game. Now Cobra Kai enters the tough part of its schedule, and surrender the booty better be ready or the pillaging will be fierce. Where My Pitches at – 4 (2-1-1) vs. Surrender the Booty – 3 (3-1) The booty has been taken! And, you better believe it was sweet! After a 3 season hiatus, WMPA (formerly PLIGC, WGTR, & AAATW) is back where we left off - with a booty beating of an undefeated team who previously gave up 0 runs. Several bad plays in the top of the first led to what looked to be a long night for WMPA. But some stellar kicking in the bottom of the inning put it away for good. Check us out next week as we Rock the Boat...
BIG BAD BOOTY AWARD Ballswell – 1 (1-2-1) vs. Kicking Balls and Taking Names – 1 (2-0-2) Mudville Mullets – 3 (3-0-1) vs. Mele’s Marauders – 2 (0-4) Commotion From The Ocean – 4 (3-1) vs. Klutho Kickers – 0 (1-2-1) Commotion and Klutho faced each other on the dirt Thursday night. Commotion held Klutho to a scoreless game and moved back up in the rankings. Fun, although otherwise uneventful. Off Constantly – 9 (3-0-1) vs. You Look Like I Need A Drink – 4 (0-4) Off Constantly pulled themselves away from the tailgate just long enough to come out with a commanding set of runs in the top of the first inning. From there neither cramp nor beer buzz could chip away at the lead they had built. Solid performances by the outfield and the team's big legs left You Look Like I Need a Drink, well, looking like they needed a drink. Thundercankles – 2 (1-3) vs. Purple People Eaters – 9 (1-2-1) Boo Nasty – 5 (2-2) vs. DNLTS – 1 (1-2-1) Boo Nasty won their second game in a row last week, knocking off DNLTS by a final of 5 - 1. The nasty ones jumped out to a quick lead, scoring three in the first inning thanks to some well-placed kicks and heads-up base running. Boo Nasty’s not so secret weapon, Joe Wilhelm, continued to strike fear in the opposition, drawing what may be the first intentional walk in the history of organized kickball. The pink team got on the board in the fifth inning with a solo homerun but Dave Falden’s defense at first base sealed the deal for Boo. 3
