“As a father and now a grandfather, nothing is more important to me than making sure all our children are learning. Studies have shown that children need to continue learning through the summer months, and reading during summer break helps our youth maintain or increase their reading levels for their return to school in the fall. Mastering reading skills is vital to building a solid foundation to a child’s educational development. By committing to summer reading, we are ensuring Richmond youth not only master the skills of reading but also discover the joy of reading.” ~Mayor Dwight C. Jones

"Students who take part in their library’s summer reading program significantly improve their reading skills. Summer reading programs are also an antidote for learning loss." (School Library Journal, Nov. 2010)
