MINUTES OF THE MOSSEL BAY GUESTHOUSE GUILD MEETING HELD AT HUIJS TE MARQUETTE ON 25 OCTOBER 2011 AT 11.00 24 members attended Opening. Prayer by Joy Welcoming. The chairman welcomed every body attending the meeting, especially Marcia Holm, from Mossel Bay Tourism (MBT) and Denise Lloyd from the Kalahari Theatre. The chairman thanked Hester Bosman and Didi Diederichs for the venue and lovely refreshments. Apologies. Speaker 1 Ms Marcia Holm from the information office mentioned the following – 1. AGM. The AGM will be taking place late November. The auditor-general will appoint an auditor; MBT may not appoint its own auditor as in the past, as the office is a Sec 21 Company. 2. Stats for tourism. Please send the monthly stats to the information office. 3. Marcia was for 6 days in Utrecht representing Your Travel Companion. The over 50 years travel industry is very strong. 4. Municipality stopped MBT to do international marketing and restricted them to national, provincial, regional and local marketing. This will have a severe effect on international visitors visiting Mossel Bay. 5. SA Tourism and CTRU is marketing Route 62, this leads to lesser self drive individuals (SDI) using the N2 and visiting Mossel Bay. MBT is in discussion with Swellendam to reroute SDI’s on the N2. A new strategy is to be studied for marketing Mossel Bay and the N2. 6. Cape Stunt Bikers are expected in Mossel Bay 13 December. 7. After an urgent appeal from Marcia, everybody attending the meeting will run a special tariff for the Diaz Festival 2 – 5 Feb. Speaker 2
Denise Lloyd from the Kalahari Theatre 1. Explained and gave hand outs iro Kalahari Theatre in George. No additional matters to be discussed. MATTERS ARISING 1. Interaction. Please interact with other guesthouses, belonging to the guild. The chairman to investigate an availability page for the website. 2. M.A.Trust. Tertius gave feedback on the present situation. The municipality must pay back the excessive amounts collected on tax, the meeting agreed that it is not good enough just to credit our accounts. The Trust is proceeding with the case regarding the electricity and toilet fees. 3. Flower Show. Flower arrangements were not part of the show. 4. Advertisement: Weg/Go. As the Weg/Go is expensive marketing, the feeling is to look at other options and other magazines like “Landbou Weekblad”. 5. Web Page. Nightsbridge connections and the classifications of the members are still outstanding. The Farm Stay page is on the website. 6. Proposed Amendments Act 6 of 2004. SA Tourism reported that they forwarded our comments to the Department dealing with the matter and to Western Cape Tourism.
NEW MATTERS 1. End-of-the-year Function. The members decided to book at Gannet. R10000 per person. No meeting, unless urgent points. Function will be on 6 December 2011 at 12:00. All members attending must inform the secretary by 1 December 2011. Every one attending must also bring a present either for a man or woman not exceeding R20.00. 2. Business Finder. The advert was displayed and distributed and all members could do changes if necessary. 3. Chairman/Secretary Honorarium. The secretary requested a R25-00 rise, but the members of the meeting allowed R500-00 for the secretary and R50000 for the chairman per year. GENERAL After no more discussions, the meeting adjourned at 12.20. Refreshments were served. The next meeting/luncheon will be held on 6 December 2011 at 12:00 at the Gannet.
