Mizuho OSI Announces New General Surgery Table Extension for AATHA and Hip Arthroscopy

Union City, CA, March 3, 2011 Mizuho OSI has introduced a new orthopedic extension for general surgery tables that provides a specific surgical platform for Anterior Approach Total Hip Arthroplasty as well as Hip Arthroscopy procedures. Called the hanaSSXT™ Specialty Surgery Extension, the new product is designed to fit a number of the most common general surgery tables in use today. Much of its design is based on the hana® Orthopedic Surgery Table, introduced in 2005 in response to a growing trend toward Anterior Approach THA in the United States, The Extension includes the hana®’s patented Femoral Hook and Support System. Gregory Parent, Product Marketing Manager, Orthopedic Tables for Mizuho OSI states: “AATHA is becoming a procedure of choice for many surgeons, but not all of them have a hana® orthopedic table to work with. This new product allows for safe hyperextension, abduction, adduction and external rotation of the hip for femoral component placement from a general surgical table base. This kind of positioning stability is not possible on a general surgery table without an extension like the hanaSSXT™.” The Anterior Approach to THA allows the surgeon to replace the hip through a single anterior incision without detachment of muscle from the pelvis or femur. The lack of trauma to the lateral and posterior soft tissue gives immediate stability to the hip after surgery making patient recovery much faster and the new hip far less susceptible to dislocation. Since its introduction, the hanaSSXT™ has been identified as the “perfect” solution to the growing needs of today’s hip arthroscopy market.

Mizuho OSI, a Mizuho Ikakogyo Company, offers a wide number of highly specialized surgical tables for spinal, joint replacement and orthopedic trauma surgery as well as tables for comprehensive imaging required by today's minimally invasive procedures. It also makes overbed traction systems and offers an extensive line of patient care and pressure management products to hospitals and clinics around the world. ###
