Relationship between the National Geographic Society and Census of Marine Life began to solidify with an initial April 26, 2007 meeting with Terry Garcia, followed by presentation to the heads of most NGS editorial units on June 8, 2007. Numberous follow up meetings, telephone and email correspondence have further established a sound working relationship between the Census and NGS.

Under the banner of a "Cross Platform Initiative," coordinate ongoing Census of Marine Life activities with NGS and orchestrate the Census' "Finale" events to capitalize on and showcase NGS products to an international audience.
With all NGS editorial units utilizing Census of Marine Life content on an ongoing basis as well as those specifically involved in NGS products that will be produced to coincide with release of the "First Census of Marine Life" in October 2010, will be coordinated to ensure the most visibility for NGS and the Census.
