National Hockey Week Later this month, clubs, associations and the entire Australian hockey community will be celebrating everything that is great about hockey with our first annual National Hockey Week. Beginning Saturday 28 May and running for nine days through until Sunday 5 June, National Hockey Week is a chance to celebrate hockey on social media and on the ground in communities around the country. To help with planning, here are five top tips to make the most of National Hockey Week 2016. Tip #1: Brighten up the club with Hockey Hub pack banners, stickers and posters Tip #2: Engage your local media with a great story - lookout in the newspaper. Tip #3: Celebrate socially with our sponsors and volunteers Tip #4: Run an event—Join Robyn at the shopping centre for a display of hockey Tip #5: Tell people about National Hockey Week - The more people that know, the better. Tell your friends and clubmates and start planning what you can do to mark National Hockey Week.

Fundraising The Mother’s Day raffle was a huge success last week and we were very lucky with our weather to be able to draw it on the closing date. A huge ‘Thank You’ to Matt McEachan for accepting our invitation to draw out the winning tickets and donating some of the prizes. Thank you everyone for your support. We have raised over $2300 to go towards covering running expenses where our fees don’t cover. There are still some books out there unreturned. Don’t forget to return your tickets even if you haven’t sold them. The winners were: 1st Woodall family nd 2 Jenny Cox (sold by Watts family) 3rd Karen Howes (sold by Watts family) 4th Reece Reimers (sold by Chloe Slater) 5th Katie Carr (sold by Drew family)

It was amazing how many of the prizes were won by people who were sold the tickets by our families and were happy to support RHA. So thank you to those who sold tickets to these people and thank you to those who bought them from our players. We don’t expect our families to just buy all the tickets themselves, but to spread the love… unless of course, you really want to win the prizes yourself. A big ‘Thank You’ also goes out to Lisa and David Kubenk and Karlie Schulz for sitting there for hours for me taking in the raffle tickets, checking them off, counting the money and preparing for the draw. I couldn’t have done it all on Saturday without your help. Last week’s raffle of a $30 Banjo’s voucher was won by Laurie, who was visiting friends for the weekend and supported us by purchasing a ticket. He kindly passed the voucher on to his friend, Andrea Bromwich, to use. Congratulations! Your voucher can be collected this weekend. The volunteer who sold tickets this week and won the coffee voucher was from the U9 Gold team. Congratulations, your voucher can be collected from me this week too. This week’s raffle prize is a voucher from the Cheesecake Shop at Cleveland. Please continue to show your support for our local businesses by visiting them and letting them know you appreciate their support to us. Our raffles have been going very well every week and we’d love to see more teams getting involved each week.

Chocolate Drive starts next week and any families who didn’t wish to take a box home should’ve notified me. All boxes will be labelled by family name of the youngest player in the family and distributed to most teams during training next week. All managers will receive a notification and should respond to confirm. Please ensure you collect from your manager at training. Seniors will be distributed on Saturday and managers will be required to collect from the Fundraising Desk before their game. Thank you. Angela Woodall

Canteen Yet another HUGE day at the canteen this week! THANKYOU so much for all our RHA Members - your continued support helps our association cover costs of field maintenance & facilities hire…which in turn keeps all our fees down! Our u12 GOLD team banded together to provide fantastic service in the Canteen. Your help is very much appreciated, its great to see such happy families putting their volunteer hours into helping out in the canteen. The smiles on the photos say it all….lots of laughs while prepping & serving all the food and drinks! (no….those photos aren’t posed!!!!!!!!) Special thankyou to Zali Carter for her scrumptious Choc Slice – was a sell out!!!!!! Don’t forget, you can pre-order your food… this ensures you get what you want to suit your game times!!! Also, our weekly special meals can be ordered as take home packs to give you an easy home cooked meal after a long hot day at the fields J This week we will be serving Chicken Curry with Rice. See you all at the Canteen Stace

Team Reports U9 Gold Lightening Bees were buzzing with energy on Saturday morning and couldn't wait to take the field against Bulimba #2. The field was a bit slippery, there were a few slides and tumbles, but that didn't stop our eager forwards from passing the ball to each other and scoring great goals and slapping high fives around. There was also great defence from all the players having a turn in the back. Great teamwork Bees! Natasha Crooke had cracking match (including a loooooong shot to the goal) and was awarded player of the week for fantastic listening and keeping position. New kid on the block Flynn Boylan received Achievement Award for his hockey debut and great listening. Jill Under 7’s - Pete, Maddie Ries, Jade Davey giving the Achievement Award to Isabella and Player of the week to Neveah

White Wolves played the blue team in another tough game this weekend. Blue was off to a good start and though they had to work for it, they dominated scoring 4 goals in the first half. After some wise words from our coach, the Wolves started to work their way back in the second half, however, the final score was 5 to 4 with the Blue team winning. The Blues are to be congratulated for their passing and working together as a team. The Wolves did better when they did the same. Congratulations to Amelia who was quite outstanding today, dependably being where she needed to be and consistently beating her opponents and clearing the ball. De Last weekend Under 16 'Blue Bombers' encountered a strong White team and it was a close tussle between two quality outfits. The close score line of 5 goals to 4 to the Blue Bombers reflected a tight match. Our goal keeper Chloe had an outstanding match saving numerous shots on goal from challenging positions under pressure. She displayed great tenacity and wasn't afraid to step up to the mark when defending the goal. Emma one of our excellent and courageous defenders on the day sustained an injury to her arm early second half and wouldn't let this stop her from going back onto the field to support her team and this individual and team spirit must be acknowledged. Great to see the Blue Bombers working well as a team and providing lots of encouragement to our new and beginning players. The team has an excellent attitude to training which makes for enjoyable training and game days. Finally the coach, players and parents would like to thank Annette our manger, who is new to the club, for stepping up to support the team. Looking forward to the next exciting round of competition U16 Blue Bombers talking tactics prior to their game against White Wolves. Blue won 5 goals to 4.
