Natxo Medina

CV and other achievements of a full time apprentice

¿Who’s Natxo Medina... Born in Zaragoza in 1985, he’s been a Media and Visual Communication graduate since 2009, after studying at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Today, Natxo is an all-terrain professional, who tries to earn a life with all the dignity he may keep living in Barcelona, an environment not always kind to young creative workers. Always interested in every form of art and culture, he develops his career as videographer, editor and ocasional writer, within a long range of disciplines, including fiction films, documentary, musical jorunalism (field in which he specializes, working on it during four years, as manager of audiovisual content for the music website scannerfm.com), advertising, cultural press (as a writer for magazines and webs) or video-essay. At this very moment, and after working for a while in the field of commercial communication, he tries to establish himself as a freelance, with several paths of work, specially focused in literary creation and documentary films, trying to keep it as much Do It Yourself as he always have been, but always open to new experiences which allow him to expand his creativity and knowledge and growing as a professional and as a human being, and also, if it’s possible, help him to pay the rent.

... And what does he want? Above everything, what Natxo would love is to become a wise man. As it is a very long-term objective, and as he knows he must work very hard to achieve it, what he woul like at the moment is to be involved in different projects that keep him awake and that represent a challenge for him, from a creative and personal perspective. Enthusiast of narratives (written and visual), he enjoys using everything that surrounds him to tell stories through different languages, as a producer, DOP, editor or writer. Also, essay and reflections about reality occupy quite a bit of his mental space and time, and that’s why documentary films have become for him a great area of interest lately. In all these fields, Natxo has been developing a certain language and workflow, which he would like to improve and perfect through new work experiences. And if it’s possible to have a little fun on the way, much better. Because Natxo knows that you always work harder if you love what you’re doing, and you can believe me when I say that in most of the work that is going to be mentioned in the next pages, passion (not money, not help from institutions or brands) has been the main ingredient to work with.

What others said about him “His passion abou culture and creation, specially cinema and music, and also the curiosity he feels about the world that surrounds him, gives him a vision and a working capacity which are essential for a professional. Always interested in avantgarde expressions and new ways of approaching reality, during the long time we worked together, he showed a level of thoroughness, creative skills, originality and autonomy uncommon for a person his age.” Bruno Sokolowicz scannerfm.com director

“During the brief period we worked together, we witnessed Natxo’s ability to adapt himself to a very consolidated work team, with it’s own workflow [...], contributing with his own edition ideas, and showing also a personal way of looking at things through the camera lens. Natxo feels real passion for arts and culture, about comunication possibilites of new technologies, audiovisual world, music, literatue and almost everything that surrounds him. He is curious, and critic and he enjoys debating and thinking about things. When it comes to work, he is a responsible, versatile and autonomous person” Ramón Balagué Minifilms TV director “He became an indispensable person in a moment in which I had a responsability I wasn’t really prepared for, sharing with me this duty with full support, in part because of the passion about the work we were doing, about music and culture, and in part because of his generosity as a work mate and person” Marta Salicrú Head of Culture Time Out Barcelona former content coordinator in scannerfm.com “Well, sometimes he drinks my Cacaolats during the night. He sneaks inside the kitchen like one of those mice in the restaurants, and then I wake up and I don’t have Cacaolats to take them to work. This makes me very angry... But in general he is a good guy, and he cooks quite well also.” Irena Visa Room mate and friend
