Brian Emmons We regret to report that Brian Emmons passed away suddenly from a heart attack on Thursday evening, April 5 at the age of 45. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Rear Commodore Barbara for her tremendous loss. Please keep them in your prayers.

From the Commodore Despite the roller-coaster weather, Spring is here and the new boating season is about to start. I’m looking forward to a great year of club activities. There are still opportunities to sign up for some of the cruises. Contact Fleet Captain Joanne Kane if you are interested in cruising. Some of the cruises have short wait lists, but we encourage you to sign up, as there are always cancellations. I look forward to seeing all of you that have signed up for the CPR class that is being held April 14th. Please be sure to look over the material that you received in the mail, prior to attending. It should be both a fun time as well as an informative one. Be sure to take a break from the Spring commissioning duties and join us for our annual Chili Dinner at Sassafras River Marina Activities Center, on April 21st. If you haven’t sent your sign-up sheets to Rear Commodore Barb Emmons, please do so right away. I look forward to cruising with many of you this season, but if you are in the vicinity of Sassafras River Marina, stop by “Offshore Account” and say Hi. Our slip number is D-28. Chesapeake Commodores Club Ball The Chesapeake Commodores Club (CCC) is made up of Past Commodores of CBYCA member clubs on the Bay. Every January, they hold a Club Ball in Ocean City, MD for their members. The Ball also is open for other yacht clubs’ members to attend, if it doesn’t sell out to the CCCs members. The theme for their next Ball is “Wild, Wild, West.” The dates are January 4th, 5th, and 6th at the Princess Royale Hotel in Ocean City, MD.

The cost is $381 per person which includes two nights’ hotel, four meals, and two nights of entertainment. Also included is access to the MANY hospitality suites sponsored by various yacht clubs with free food and drinks. If you are interested in more information or wish to attend, please call our CCCs contact person, Past Commodore Perry Scott at 717-569-1143. Commodore Gary Sorrelle

From The Vice Commodore The calendar says Spring – but I think Mother Nature is having some second thoughts. That just means more of you will still be in “working” mode the weekend of Chili Dinner. So, if you get your clothes grungy while waxing and painting….come to Chili Dinner, have a warm meal, and stop by the Ship’s Store for some new clean clothes! We have long sleeve, short sleeve, sweatshirts, wind jackets, and tank tops – we can dress you for any kind of weather!! We added the 12oz Tervis Tumblers, hats, and some magnets for your car. We also have two new items which are available by Special Order only. Pre-orders are being taken through May 25th for a Special Edition Crab Feast T-Shirt; we also have a 3-season Jacket that can be ordered with custom lettering. If you are unable to make it to Chili Dinner (or you just can’t wait to see everything), please check out the web site for pictures and order forms for all items. (Thank you to Gus for the new web page layout!). Hope to see you soon, Daryle

Secretary’s Notes

Our annual Snowflake Luncheon was a huge success. We had 90 adult members, along with their children, attend this year. The Treehouse in the Atlantic City Convention Center was an awesome choice for the luncheon, especially with the boat show going on directly downstairs. All the members who reserved rooms at the Sheraton were very happy with their accommodations. I chose to replace a guest speaker with a “Did you know…?” question and answer segment. Thank you to all for responding and making “Did you know..?” very informative and successful. We all learned a lot about the club history and our members. I would like to say “Thanks Again” to everyone who helped us make the Snowflake as successful as it was. Our next event on this year’s land calendar is the Chili Dinner. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, April 21st at 1700 hrs at the Sassafras Harbor Marina activity center. There will be a great assortment of chili, salads, desserts, and refreshments. Don’t forget to send me your responses letting me know what you will be bringing. We currently need chili and side dishes, we have plenty of desserts! I will also be accepting donations for the “Basket of Cheer” to be raffled at the Opening Day ceremony. If you are not able to attend the Chili Dinner, you can give your bottle donation to any officer. The Opening Day ceremony will be held at Skipjack Cove on Saturday, May 19th at 1100 hrs. The club will provide burgers, hot dogs, and liquid refreshments. Please bring a generous side dish to share. We will end the day’s festivities with a Dinner-Dance at The Granary. Sign up sheets for these activities will be sent in late April. Don’t hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions about this year’s land events. My phone number and email address are listed on this newsletter. See you soon, Barb

Time is running out for those members who have not yet renewed for our 2007 season. Per our bylaws, members who have not paid by May 1st will automatically be deleted from our roster. So save yourself the aggravation, and your Secretary too, by renewing now. As of April 1, there are 25 members who have not renewed or notified us they will not be renewing this year. Craig Solt

April 2007 2007 SRYC Officers

From The Webmaster Hello everyone and Happy Spring! I don’t know about you, but all this washing, waxing, and bottom painting is making me long for an SRYC gathering! Luckily our Chili Dinner festivities are just around the corner. Apart from the occasional error that one of you finds and brings to my attention (thank you!), things have been quiet for the Webmaster. Thanks for looking and, as always, suggestions or comments are appreciated. My crazy idea for this season is to have the Members area updated with everyone’s picture. Grab a friend and have them take a picture of you and your family on your boat and send it to me. I’ll post it on the website so that when you click on your name your picture pops up. If you have a few words, comments, or favorite saying that you want next to your picture send that along too. If you can’t find a friend with a steady hand, give me a shout and I’ll stop by to take the shot. Gus Barreiro, Webmaster Editor’s Note: I will also be available to take your picture for the web site’s Members area. I’m at Sassafras Harbor Marina, E-14. Jim Irons

Sassy Says Happy Springtime SRYC! Boy, “In like a lion, out like a lamb” almost happened until Mother Nature decided to throw snow and sleet at us at the end of March. Luckily no one jumped the gun and took their covers off. Oops, that’s not exactly true, any guesses on who got nervous?? Well, we had another great Snowflake gettogether hosted by the new Rear Commodore and what a fine shindig! The bar was plentiful, we met the $ minimum (big surprise), the food was great, what more could you ask for? Maybe next time Daryle should model some of his new collection of clothing. There’s some great new stuff so make sure you see Daryle (but give your money to Diane!). They both put in some hard work to showcase the ship’s store so show your support. The new officers were all introduced by Commodore Sorrelle, and it was kept very brief. Who would have thought the past Commodore wouldn’t have anything to say, did someone get the cut sign? I guess everyone was just anxious to move on to the main event. The incoming Fleet Captain gave a terrific presentation, despite the “help” she got from her co-Fleet. Sounds like there was a bit of “creative juice” flowing when the presentations were being put together, but they all pulled it off in the end and we’re now looking forward to some exciting new destinations in 2007, along with some good old standbys. Nice job Joanne (and crew)! A generous raffle was set up to add to our funds. Too bad for the rest of us that one family kept standing up – was someone paid off to announce “We Have a Winner!” to the same person so many times? Luckily we did have winners once the ticket selling protocol got straightened out. I think someone planned to beat the club best by taking everyone’s money and keeping both halves of the ticket. But we have an understanding membership and everything was taken in stride with a little fun ribbing, well maybe more than a little. Are you sure you’re tickets got into those bags?! Attendance was awesome, all but one couple I believe – brings to mind the “one of these things is not like the others” song. Can you figure out what was different? (Hint: this boat has more canvas than any boat in the club).

Everyone had a great time – the historical club facts, boat name stories, and especially everyone’s sentiments about what a great club we have. Let’s keep it going strong. Thanks to Barb for pulling all that information together, it was fun! Maybe some tidbits will show up on the best yacht club website on the Chesapeake – check it out for lots of pictures, weather, ship’s store, everything you want to know about the club, and the Nauti News – all thanks to our fine webmaster. Of course the boat show was well attended, do you know who signed on the dotted line for that special boat-show-only deal? The Sheraton was fabulous; you could go from room to room to room for all the parties. Too bad we didn’t take much advantage of the Tun Tavern, I hear the beer was good and the food smelled delicious, well maybe next time. What’s with boat people, do we think our rooms are our cabins? But, I can’t blame Bill & Donna for not wanting to leave their room, WOW, what an upgrade! Who do you have to know to get that room? Maybe it was just luck, and I know we all wish them the same luck in their new life together. CONGRATULATIONS!! Speaking of rooms and parties, did you hear about some of the goings on? See if you can match these comments to the room or the person: You know, ‘trapeze’… it’s a position in this book I have. Does anyone know where my socks are? I’ll take hooters and drinks over a power boat lunch any day! She waxes on and I ‘wax’ off. We don’t need to know her room number, just stand in the hallway and listen. I take Cialis anytime, it just makes you feel good. You just can’t beat the friendships and laughs in this club!!! One parting thought: “The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they are okay, then it’s you.” - Rita Mae Brown Can’t wait to see everyone at the Chili Dinner and Opening Day! And don’t forget to email any gossip and tidbits to Sassy through the website. Sassy
