From the Editor’s Desk “What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.” - Vern McLellan Well, the new business year 2012-13 starts, and as in the calendar year beginning, we are equally hopeful about the new business year – with a difference! The personal new year resolutions are generally made for breaking, whereas we make business plans in the beginning of the year, and..... In the forthcoming year, Modular Shree-Lipi marketing and support group is planning to reach maximum customers by conducting customer clinics in a large number of cities / towns / district or taluka places. Through this Modular Forum, we are answering all the questions that reach us. Now we want to visit maximum places to meet face-to-face with our customers. If you are a sizeable group of Shree-Lipi customers in your town, and are interested in having a customer clinic, do write to us indicating the number of people that could attend the clinic. If you have any topic in mind that you want us to explain more, do let us know. So let us see if you are one of those whom our team members will be meeting this year. Wish You a Successful and Prosperous New Business Year! Meena Joshi
Avishkar ( Font Utility from Shree-Lipi Package) Avishkar is a Font Modification / Generation utility, in which you can apply changes to the font and can create a new font of your own choice. Avishkar applies various transformations to a given font and generates a font which can be used in any Windows application. The type of transformation and the degree of transformation can be specified by the individual control buttons / edit boxes. It is not possible to Generate SLX (EX) font, Decorative and Unicode fonts using Avishkar.
size. To match the sizes of both fonts you will have to use lower point size for English text. This changing of point sizes can become operationally very tedious. It is therefore suggested to scale the English font down and use this scaled font in your application so that the text height of both fonts will appear same. For deciding the scale you may use ‘Scale+’ or ‘Scale-’ buttons or even better enter the value in the edit-box. Examples of various font effects

How to Generate Windows Metafile (.WMF)
^maV ^maV
This menu option allows you to generate a graphic file (.WMF) for the characters seen on the screen. This option is useful when you don’t want to generate the entire font for the selected transformations and want to generate a picture file of limited characters which you can then import in your application. The metafile with file extension of .WMF and the name given by you will be created in the directory of your choice. This is useful when you do not want to create the entire font.
How to Generate Font for a specific parameter
FAQs
Before generating output font it is necessary to perform all the settings of the transformations. You then should specify the output font name. This is done by going to the main menu option ‘Output Font’. After all these settings you may click on ‘Make’ button on lower right side corner or use the main menu option ‘Make Font’. A progress-bar will appear showing the progress of the font generation process. Avishkar will directly install the generated font in ATM as well as Windows in shree70 folder with the name given by you. The fonts can be installed by using Font installation option through Windows.
I want to generate a Type-1 font but Avishkar is generating True-Type fonts only -
Outline Font
If you are generating the font from Avishkar & source font type is True Type then it will generate the True Type font only, if the source font is Type-1 format then Avishkar will generate Type-1 font only. Can I save the Sample and Modified text in Avishkar? Yes, you can save the Sample and Modified text as WMF (Windows Meta File) format, which can be imported in any application. This is a useful feature if you do not want to create font for any particular parameter.

Good looking fonts help in catching the attention of the reader. They also help in making the overall page design look good. Feedback about Shree-Lipi software Have been a Shri-Lipi user for many years. I think I have been using it from the time it was Shri-Lipi 1.0. The pace at which the fonts and the software has been developed is great. I was very happy that you developed Mac based software too, because of which I got 20 mac based licenses and they are working fine. My students are extremely happy to use it because it gives them good looking fonts for their assignments. And Of course other views also. - You need to find a different way to prevent piracy. Sometimes the use of the USB Lock is cumbersome. However, you must put some faith on your regular customers. I was asked to pay extra amount because I had to change my hard drive (When I had an older version and had to upgrade my hard drive thrice). Overall I am extremely happy with the software and intend to keep using it.

Tips and Tricks for Windows and Applications Many times your DVD drive may not be found by Windows 7, even if it is visible in the BIOS and using the standard driver. Click on Start option and slecet run - type Disk Management and choose the "Create and format hard disk partitions" link. If your optical drive is visible here then right-click it, select Change Drive Letter and Paths, click Change and choose a new letter. If the drive is now visible in Explorer, then repeat the process to change the drive letter back; if it's still not visible, reboot and it should appear.
