Musselroe Wind Farm shows the power of investment grade policy Tasmania’s 168 MW Musselroe Wind Farm, featuring Vestas V90-3.0 MW turbines officially opens today. The 168 megawatt (MW) Musselroe Wind Farm was officially opened today, and has been one of the biggest construction projects in Tasmania’s north east for many years. Vestas supplied 56 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine and has a ten year full scope service agreement for the project. The steel towers for the project were manufactured by Launceston engineering firm Haywards, continuing Vestas’ track record of supporting local suppliers. Musselroe Wind Farm is operated by Woolnorth Wind Farm Holdings, a joint venture between Shenhua Clean Energy Holdings (SCE) and Hydro Tasmania. SCE is a subsidiary of the Shenhua Group, one of China's leading energy companies. Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s largest renewable energy generation business and has been a long-time customer of Vestas. With the $400 million Musselroe project, Vestas has now installed more than 50 percent of wind energy capacity in Australia. “Vestas was a pioneer in the Australian wind energy industry and remains strongly committed to the Australian market,” says Danny Nielsen, Acting President of Vestas Asia Pacific and China. “We are very pleased to have such good working relations with our key customers here.” “Investments of this scale don’t just happen by accident. Australia has attracted more than $18 billion of investment due to bipartisan political support for the Renewable Energy Target.” “Bipartisan political support at both state and federal level helps create the long-term business certainty that makes major investments like the Musselroe project a reality.” Woolnorth Wind Farm Holdings also operates the 65 MW Bluff Point Wind Farm featuring 37 Vestas V66-1.75 MW turbines and the 75 MW Studland Bay Wind Farm featuring 25 Vestas V90-3.0 MW turbines. Vestas has installed 8,500 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine globally, making it one of the most popular Vestas turbines.
