AGIS - a new state of the art information service Despite employing almost 50% of the country’s population, the agricultural sector in Albania suffers from severe underfunding. Financial institutions are often reluctant to loan money to agribusinesses, as they lack sufficient data and information on the sector. The AGIS Platform, the Agriculture Information and Intelligence System, tries to change that. By providing reliable and detailed agricultural data, it provides financial institutions with the necessary knowledge to make lending decisions, thereby improving agribusinesses’ access to finance. On November 21, 2016, RisiAlbania and Creative Business Solution (CBS) presented AGIS to Senior officials from the Albanian Government, Swiss Embassy, USAID, banks and financial institutions, donors and industry experts. Representatives from major banks in Albania characterized AGIS as a platform with very high standards that will enable and facilitate the banks’ decision in lending to agribusinesses. AGIS was considered by all banks as “the green light for business financing, starting at the right moment”.
