HOW THE PAY PROPOSALS WOULD WORK: SOME EXAMPLES
NIAMH Niamh is a cleaner on Spinal Column Point 6 (£7.78 an hour). She works 18 hours a week. Her annual pay in 2017/18 will be £7,282. From April 2018 her hourly rate will rise to £8.50 – an increase of 9.3% In April 2019 SCP6 will be replaced by the new Point 1 which will be worth £9 an hour. This represents a further increase of 5.9% . Overall, Niamh’s hourly pay will increase by 15.7 % between 2017/18 and 2019/20. Niamh’s pay would go up to £7,956 in April 2018. It would go up again to £8,424 in April 2019 when the pay spine is introduced.
MICHAEL Michael works as a clerical assistant and is on SCP9 (£7.97 an hour). He works 27 hours a week. This is 75 per cent of full-time hours. His annual pay is £11,190. Michael’s hourly pay would increase to £8.68 in April 2018 – a rise of 8.9%. In April 2019 he would be moved on to the new SCP2 of £9.18 – a further increase of 5.8%. His pay would increase by 15.2% in total over the two year period. His annual pay would go up to £12,187 in April 2018. It would go up again to £12,889 in April 2019. MONISHA Monisha is a nursery assistant and is on SCP11 (£8.19 an hour). She works 3 full days a week. Her annual pay is £9,582. Monisha would get a 7.7 %pay rise in April 2018 (to £8.82 an hour). This would increase her annual pay to £10,319. She would receive a further increase to £9.36 an hour in April 2019 when she would be moved on to the new SP3 – a further rise of 6.1 %. Her annual pay in 2019/20 would be £10,951. Overall, Monisha’s hourly pay would rise by 14.3 %from 2017 to 2019.
ELEANOR Eleanor works as a manager and she is on SCP41 (£18.86 an hour). She works 37.5 hours a week. Her annual pay is £36,270. Eleanor would get a 2 % pay rise in April 2018 when she would be moved on to the new SCP35. This would increase her hourly rate to £19.23 (or £37,499 annually). She would receive a further 2% increase in April 2019. This would raise her hourly pay to £19.62 and her annual pay to £38,259. RUSSELL Russell is employed as a Level 1 Refuse Operative at the top of his pay band on SCP23 (£11.02 an hour). He works full time. His annual pay is £21,489. In April 2018 his hourly rate would increase by 2% to £11.24. His annual pay would increase to £21,918. In April 2019 he would be moved on to the new SCP14 of £11.64 an hour – an increase of 3.6%. His annual salary would be £22,698. Between 2017 and 2019 his hourly rate would increase by 5.6%.
KAYLEIGH Kayleigh is a Level 2 Teaching Assistant at the top of her pay band (SCP16). She earns £9.03 an hour. She is paid for 195 days work a year on a term-time only contract. Under her local authority’s formula for reckoning term-time pay, this equates to an annual salary of £14,199. In April 2019 her hourly salary would increase to £9.50 – a rise of 5.2%. Her annual salary would increase to £14,938. Kayleigh’s hourly salary would increase to £9.94 in April 2019 when she would be moved on to the new SCP6. This represents a further increase of 4.6% . Her new annual salary would be £15,629. Her basic hourly rate and her annual salary would increase by 10.1% over the two year period.
