SERVICE BULLETIN

No. 141 Design Organisation Approval No. AS-SB/06/009 dated 14/11/2006

INFORMATION

SUBJECT: RETROFIT OF THE “KEITH” AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

1. GENERAL 1.1 AIRCRAFT AFFECTED All P68 series aircraft from S/N 411 onwards on which the Keith Air Conditioning System is to be retrofitted.

1.2 PURPOSE The purpose of this bulletin is to inform owners of the above mentioned aircraft, that should they wish to retrofit their aircraft with an air conditioning system manufactured by “KEITH PRODUCT INC. – Dallas - USA”, Kit SB141/1 comprising the mechanical parts and Kits SB141/2 or SB141/3 as applicable, comprising the electrical parts are now available for installation in accordance with the latest applicable revision of the Service Instruction No. 84.

1.3 DESCRIPTION The air conditioner consists of two main units as follows: • •

Compressor/Condenser Vulcanair P/N NOR7.499-2 (Keith P/N: JBS 5002-3); Evaporator/Fan Vulcanair P/N NOR7.499-3 (Keith P/N: JBS 2046-1).

Service Bulletin No. 141

1. GENERAL (Cont.) 1.3 DESCRIPTION (Cont.) The Compressor/Condenser and the Evaporator/Fan are installed on a proper mechanical interface in light alloy which is fixed to the fuselage structure between frame numbers 11 and 12 immediately behind the baggage compartment bulkhead. The air conduit currently installed on board for the circulation of fresh air in the cabin, is also used for the circulation of the air from the conditioner through the existing outlets. A grid installed in the bulkhead of the baggage compartment, near the Evaporator, permits the air in the cabin to be recycled. A hole drilled on the outer skin on the right hand side of the fuselage in the area between frame numbers 11 and 12, allows outside air to enter through a flexible tube going towards the condenser which is properly covered by a plenum. A hole drilled on the left side of the tail boom, between frame numbers 11 and 12, allows the air coming from the condenser to discharge outside the aircraft through flexible hoses. A proper conveyor facilitates said discharge during flight. In the event of infiltration of rain water, tubing on this conveyor allows drainage through a pipe installed in the fuselage bottom between frame numbers 11 and 12 Two flexible hoses, one coming from the air intake and one installed under the plenum converge to a second drainage pipe installed in the fuselage bottom between frame numbers 11 and 12 allowing drainage of condensate and/or infiltration of rain water A flexible hose discharges condensate from the evaporator outside the aircraft through a third drainage pipe installed in the fuselage bottom between frame numbers 11 and 12 28 Volt continuous power is necessary to operate the air conditioning system with a requirement of 85 Amperes for the compressor and 7 Amperes for the fan, for a total of 92 Amperes. The power for the compressor is obtained from the power panel through a 100 Amp breaker, while a 15 Amp breaker protects the circuit for the fan. In the event of a malfunction on one of the two generators, a cut-off system automatically disactivates the air conditioner with the exception of the fan which continues functioning. However if necessary, the pilot can also manually disactivate the system by positioning the AIR COND-OFF-FAN switch on the breaker panel to OFF. The system can only be activated with both Alternators functioning. When the aircraft is on ground with the engines shut-off, external power is required to activate the air conditioning system.

1. GENERAL (Cont.) 1.3 DESCRIPTION (Cont.) Three control switches for the air conditioning system are installed on the breaker panel and identifiable as follows: a) Switch: “HEAT FAN – OFF – AIR COND” b) Switch: “AIR COND – OFF – FAN” c) Switch: “HIGH – LOW” The above mentioned switches are already installed on all aircraft affected by this bulletin but carry a sticker stating “NOT USED”. When the switches are electrically connected, the stickers must be removed. For the maintenance procedures of the air conditioning system installed on the P68 Observer 2 e P68TC Observer aircraft, refer to the la test revision of the Supplement to the Maintenance Manual NOR10-771-2A and to Supplement to the Maintenance Manual NOR10-771-2B for the P68C aircraft. Refer to the latest applicable revision instructions for filling the refrigerant .

of the “Keith Service Manual TR-134”.for

Refer to the la test revision of Service Instruction No. 84 for the functional tests of the air conditioning system and tests for interference on the round.

1.4 TIME OF COMPLIANCE At owner’s discretion.

1.5 MANHOURS REQUIRED The time necessary for the application of this Service Bulletin is estimated as being 130 man-hours including the time required to access the parts and to release the aircraft to service.

1.6 SPECIAL TOOLS No special tools are required to install the air conditioning system. Refer to the latest revision of the “Keith Service Manual TR-134” included in Kit SB141/1 for tools required for the filling and emptying of the refrigerant.

1.7 VARIATION IN WEIGHT AND BALANCE The aircraft will have to be reweighed to determine the new empty weight and centre of gravity.

1.8 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM LOAD Maximum required load = 92 Amperes
