EDITORS COMMENTS Things have been rather quiet this month as far as DX activity is concern~d other than the contest. We have received exactly two station reports from members and have little to report. It is pretty authentic that Doc Merideth, W5PQA, will be on from East Pakistan in a.pp ... roximately the next 30 days. My source reveals that he will probably use the KWM .. l of Ted Henry's that was used by VUZANI as well as the antesmas of that expedition9 but there is also a possibility that he may get on with a BC-610o His itenerary has been changed somewhat and it is not definitely known when he is scheduled to arrive in East Pakistan 11 but it is fairly certain that when he does he will get on the aire Arrangements have been made for permits etco and it is understood that they are waiting for him at Dacca, Eo Pakistan at the American Embassy9 Legation or Consul whichever they have there. Doa has not been heard from since leaving Hong Kong so if any of you hear him on the air from any of the stations out that way please aak that he c011tact BUl Bennett W7PHO for fur-ther particulars on the East Pa.kiatan operationso

Dear Mr. Thomas: RE: Con t ests Now that it is impractical for W6AM to enter contests with the hope of runir.tg up a large score you might like to hear a different viewpoint from those generally published in your very fine columns .. To W6AM& contests have always been a sort of "over the air convention", a meeting place where one could hear, work, exchange the equivalent of a "hello" and "how are you?" "'"' meet old £riends and make new ones" liter.., ally by the hundreds-. One weekend of a contest often represents more qso's than all of the rest of the year put togethero When W6AM goes to. an ARRL Convention he tries to see and talk with most every-one there 9 it just makes us feel good to see so many kindred souls in so short a time and at one place. The contests in many respects are sim ... ilar 8 and I hope we can always have theme as well as the more leisurely but fewer qso 8s we have the rest of the year. Anyways I thought you'd like to hear from an old contest man who in times past often pleasantly met more G's in a single contest than would normally occur in a whole yearc No doubt there are others that feel the same wayo W6AM thoroughly enjoyed the last few cmtests 8 making relatively few QSO's compared to previous yearso One record of 1243 phone SS qso•s with differ ... ent stations still standso Most of those 1Z43 phone hams still seem to think t hey are a special ham friend of W6AM. I u n de r s tan d from ta.l kiDJ to Ed. Peck, W6LDD, today (Sunday March 6t h» t hat the second half of the Phone Contest has been very poor. His multipliers are as follows: 34 on 10 mtrsw, Z6 on 15 mtrs. ; 19 on ZO mtrso ii 10 on 40 mtrs . and 1 on 80 meters for a total of 90o Total points approximately 43 0 650 in the AM test. I persOilally heard very little actitiity during the day although W6AED a t Marysville has been active and may have racked up a good score for NCDXCo 0
