BACHELOR OF LAWS (HONOURS) STUDENTS – OCTOBER 2014 INTAKE

A screening test in English will be held for all students admitted to the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in October 2014 who are not in possession of an Advanced Matriculation Level pass at Grade C or better in English. This test will be held at the beginning of October. The Screening Test will focus on two of the four language skills: reading and writing. It tests linguistic competence concerning vocabulary, grammar and structure, and is pegged at levels that reflect expectations of adequacy in these areas within undergraduate courses. It is of paramount importance that students who fail this test, register for, and are assessed on, the following two study-units during the first year of the LL.B. (Hons) course: • •

ENG1062 - English Proficiency - 2ECTS - 1st Semester ENG1426 - English Writing Skills - 2ECTS - 2nd Semester

These two study-units will be part of the 60 ECTS credits students will be expected to complete during their first year of studies. Please keep in mind that as English is the language of instruction at the University of Malta, students should ensure that they possess an excellent command of the English Language. Should this not be the case, it is highly recommended that students follow the two abovementioned study-units to ensure a good level of English proficiency throughout their course. Poor use of English may lead to poor performance in their assessments and students would not be in a position to progress to subsequent years. All students, except those holding an Advanced Matriculation Level pass at grade “C” or higher in English must sit for the test. This test will be held on Friday, 3rd October 2014 between 9.00a.m. to 10.00a.m in Arts Lecture Theatre (ALT – next to the playschool), on campus.
