Unique Fold Forming Techniques for Jewelry Nick Barnes
Color in Fiber Arts Marilyn Harrington
Using traditional and non-traditional hand and hammer form raising techniques, students explore using fold forming in unique ways. Using pre-shaped blanks to aid in the emphasis of design through play, students are introduced to the basic techniques developed by Charles Lewton Brain and his students, and use these methods as a springboard to explore different avenues in their own pieces. A material list is available, and an optional tool kit may be purchased from the instructor.
From rich reds to muted greens, vibrant oranges to mild blues, and bold purples to retiring yellows, this class covers how to apply and combine colors successfully. Fiber arts require different strategies since colors operate in proximity and do not “blend” in the same manner as paint or dye. Using a series of in-class exercises, fiber enthusiasts of all persuasions learn to control color by the use of harmonies, proportions, and contrast. Students bring some materials from home, and a $12 materials fee is payable to the instructor for additional supplies.
