2000 Historic Church Tour- Very Successful Fr. R ick thanks all our volunteers for the 3rd Annual Historic Church Tour sponsored by the St. Paul Area Council of Churches. A few hundred people passed through our doors on October 15th and experienced Orthodoxy, some for the first time. Hopefully, the day was a faithful witness to our beautiful Christian Faith. Pie Sale History- although it was discontinued several years ago, the semi-annual Pie Sale fundraiser before Thanksgiving and Easter was a fixture activity of our community for nearly twenty years. Pan-Orthodox Thanksgiving Eve Divine Liturgy- always held on the same day every year to bring together clergy and lay persons from all Orthodox Christian churches in the Twin Cities area. THOSE WHO SERVE US & THE LORD So far in our 75th anniversary series honoring those who serve us we've highlighted priests associated with our community. Now we focus on the priest wife, called in Greek 'presvytera' which is the feminine form of 'presbyter'. The presvytera is not ordained nor does she have a specific assignment in the local church community but she is very important in the priestly ministry of the Orthodox Church. Almost 99 percent of clergy are married and they depend on their respective presbytera for support in their own personal families and in their parish families. The presvytera provides the great majority of pastoral ministry to the priest. She often become the primary parent when the responsibilities of parish ministry demand the priest's time and attention. On Sunday mornings and during other parish activities the presvytera often functions as a single parent, getting their children ready for liturgy and bringing them to the church and helping them participate. Whatever additional parish ministries she chooses to become involved with, the presvytera brings a unique passion and perspective for mission of the Church. We thank God for our presvyteras and diakonissas (deacon wives). Presvyteras Condilo Capoyianes, Frances (Euphrosyne) Vasiliou, Georgia Rassias have taken their rest with our Lord Jesus Christ. Presvyteras Anna Angelis, Miriam Parschou and Jane Andrews continue to serve the Lord on earth. This month we would like to highlight an additional presvytera familiar to many of you... Presvytera Diana DokosLamberis I was born in St. Paul, MN and grew up at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in St. Paul. I was an active member of JOY and GOYA, and eventually became the youth director of the church for 2 years. Additionally, I was very active with the YAL, and served on the committee for the National YAL Conference which was held
in Minneapolis in the summer of 1997. I taught Sunday school and vacation church school, and served as a winter and summer camp counselor for St. Mary’s church camp for several years. I was an active choir member, and helped with chanting. I attended the University of Minnesota and received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and attained my Masters in Education with a school guidance counseling focus. After my graduate studies, I worked as a guidance counselor in Minneapolis for 2 years. I then moved to Chicago, IL in 2002 and got a job as a high school guidance counselor. I became the co-coordinator of the Chicago Metropolis YAL, and spear-headed several local YAL conferences, as well as retreats, social outings, and various spiritual gatherings. Through my work with YAL, I met my husband, Fr. George Lam beris, and we were married in March of 2013. He was ordained to the diaconate in February of 2014 and to the priesthood in March of 2014, and was assigned to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Niles, IL. By God’s blessing, we welcomed our first child, baby boy Konstandino, in July of 2014. One of my favorite memories as a youth at St. George was an overnight lock-in while I was in GOYA. I remember Fr. Parry being present, and almost all of the GOYAns were there. We were all pretty close, so it was like having a huge slumber party. I remember that Fr. Parry led us in a discussion, and then we watched a movie and ordered Dominoes pizza. I remember quite vividly how much pizza we consumed that evening! And of course, how little sleep. This is a very warm memory for me, and just shows how important youth programs are for our children. It brings everyone closer together, and is an excellent supplement to teaching our kids about the Orthodox Faith. Another wonderful memory for me was the Festival of Nations and our dance troupe. I was a member of our dance troupe for years, and then eventually became the leader. We had such a wonderful core group of people, and we met weekly for practices in preparation for the Festival. I always looked forward to those practices because we really had such a fun time together. And when we performed at the Festival, we performed with all of our heart and our personalities! We laughed, smiled, and gave the people a lively and entertaining performance.

NOVEMBER SPOTLIGHT Pan-Orthodox Thanksgiving Eve Liturgy, November 25 This special evening has been hosted by our parish for the last 30 years but its history goes back at least another ten years according to our records. Thanksgiving Eve is the only time that the clergy brotherhood gather for concelebration of the Divine Liturgy each year. The history of the brotherhood goes back at least to the late 1940s. Our own archives contain a newspaper photo of Fr. Thomas Skaff of the Antiochian parish, Fr. Constantinos Souliopoulos of the Greek parish, and Fr. Elie Motu of the Romanian parish (below left). The caption states that they will be celebrating the liturgy together with a meal to follow. Below right is a photo of clergy at event in 2011.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION Dear Fellow Parish Members, November is St George Stewardship Month, focusing on the theme of giving Time, Talents and Treasures. Each year many of you have continued to incrementally increase your Stewardship giving in 2015 as much as 42% of those who pledge have done so. For this St George is grateful. We wanted to share a mechanism available in many corporations that is available to increase your giving dollars to our parish. Larger companies such as Medtronic will often match your gift to an organization with very little effort on the employee’s part, simply a call to the human resources department to discuss options and guidelines set up by your employer. Two of our parishioners were very successful this year getting their contributions and volunteer hours matched (within the guidelines of the company), enabling our parish to receive additional revenue. Please consider taking the time to review your company’s policy. Yours in Christ, Alexis Bighley, Stewardship Chair page 6
