Training in project work and project management Getting involved in projects, both national and European, can offer great benefits to unions in Europe – not just financial ones, although in times of economic restraint project funding can make an important contribution to allowing unions to address important strategic objectives. The acquisition of project management skills can lead to more effective and efficient achievement of trade union work more generally – in planning, communication, teamwork and task delivery. ETUI, together with ETUC and a core group of affiliates, tutors and experts, is now offering a certified and accredited three-level training programme designed to address trade union project work needs at regional, national and European levels.

Setup News - Training is designed to keep trade union trainers and educators informed on these innovative ETUI Education developments that will enable unions to maximise opportunities for using project management methods as part of their day-to- day working.

First Intermediate Level Course in Project Management – Edinburgh, April 2014 The first edition of ETUI’s Project Management for Trade Union Representatives– intermediate level course will take place in April 2014 in Edinburgh, Scotland After three editions of the Trainers Course on Project Work (held in Bologna, Sofia, and Ljubljana) and various editions of the Introductory level course delivered by national affiliates, it’s now time to deliver the first edition of the Intermediate level course – Project Management for Trade Union Representatives. The course will take place in April 2014 in Edinburgh, with TUC Scotland acting as host organisation. The training will provide participants who have successfully completed the Introductory Course at national level

with an opportunity to further their knowledge of effective project management and to learn something about the benefits and challenges of project work at a European level. An official invitation to participate will be sent by ETUI in the coming weeks. A second edition of the Intermediate Course is planned for October 2014.

Accreditation Alongside the development of this innovative suite of training opportunities to support union project activities, ETUI Education has also piloted a model of accrediting training. The model uses assessment techniques that are supportive of existing trade union training methods. It has already enabled 71 ETUI course participants to achieve qualifications in project work and project management that are mapped to the European Qualifications Framework. More details on this can be obtained from Silvana Pennella, [email protected].
