It will cover issues such as usability specification and design, usability engineering, testing and certification. DESIGN WORKSHOP

HUNTER 3 & 4

User Experience Design, Service Design, Design Thinking and CoDesign are all phrases that have entered the everyday vocabulary of clinicians and managers working on innovation in healthcare delivery. Despite the confusion around terminology, everyone agrees that ‘design’ has an important role to play in the delivery of innovative models of care. How do you actually get started with design on your healthcare projects? Chris and Emma will walk through a case study in detail, and introduce some principles and techniques you can use to get started on your own co-design project. Dr Emma Blomkamp @emmablomkamp Co-Design & Evaluation Lead, Paper Giant Dr Chris Marmo @kurisu Research Director, Paper Giant

11.30am

SWITCHOVER Participants will swap rooms to participate in the other workshop.

Lunch The old man and the CD (with apologies to Hemingway) Pamela Scicluna @Pamela_Scicluna Executive Director, Kianza On this UX adventure, we dive deep into this sadly true story of one health consumer’s journey to discover whether he should trust his gut. We deconstruct and redesign the customer journey to create a positive experience that delivers better and faster care.

1.55pm

2.20pm

“Just do it” or when not to? Case study of user centric integration of a telehealth system Karrie Long @KarrieLong Telehealth Operations Manager, The Royal Melbourne Hospital The challenge: Implement a new telehealth platform in an already disparate hospital information system, where previous iterations had failed or failed to thrive. This case study describes how a system was integrated with the usability of all players at the core of the design challenge. With still more work to be done, the methods and learnings of this implementation will be shared. Elegantly simple solutions Dr Tim Fazio @timfazio Clinical Informatics Lead, The Royal Melbourne Hospital When we think of new health technologies, we often think of large scale projects such as EMRs, or novel and modern ideas such as mobile applications or wearable technology. Just as importantly, however, are simple tools which solve real, day-to-day problems because they work for users – as is the primary aim of usability. When end users join with developers, elegantly simple solutions can be developed to improve the usability of hospital systems.

2.45pm

From patient to consumer advocate, my journey Harry Iles-Man Consumer Representative Dianne Kalogeras @AuDigitalHealth Senior Clinical Usability Analyst, Australian Digital Health Agency Join us for an in-depth conversation between Dianne Kalogeras and Harry Iles-Man to see what drives this extraordinary young man. Harry Iles-Mann is 22 years old, who has had 19 years of interacting with most facets of the healthcare system concerned with managing the health of sufferers of severe chronic health issues. He recounts his patient journey which commenced in the children’s hospital system and now has transitioned into adult care. He has developed an interest in how clinical information and access to that information can be used to make the system more user friendly and patient centric. He offers some insights into where things work and where he believes they can be improved as part of the patient’s journey.

3.15pm 3.55pm
