A CORRIGAN SPORTS EVENT

All additional race materials will be available for pick-up at the Oakland Marriott City Center on March 23 during the Lagunitas Happy Hour from 5p to 7p or on March 24 from 9a to 4p during the Kaiser Permanente Health & Fitness Expo. Remember Runner Packets are available for pick-up during these times ONLY; there will be NO Registration or Runner Packet Pick-Up on Sunday.

This packet includes important information that will prepare you for the events and activities surrounding race day. If you have entered the Oakland Marathon, Kaiser Permanente Half-Marathon, Team Relay, Bank of the West 5K or Kids Fun Run, it is extremely important that you thoroughly read all of the information in this booklet carefully.

Once again, this year our center of race day activities is back in Eastshore Park, located just off the shores of majestic Lake Merritt. As we learned last year, this location provides us plenty of open green space to allow our runners, fans, and sponsors plenty of elbow room as they celebrate their accomplishments. And we have made adjustments to make it even better!

We are excited to show you why we were selected by USA Today Sports Active Alliance as one of the top independent races in the nation and why we consistantly receive ratings of 95% or more for participants willing to recommend our race to a friend.

We are excited to host this event once again in 2018. We happily await the 9th running of the Oakland Running Festival and are glad you have decide to joins us! The event has become a huge success with more than 10,000 runners this year and tremendous community support. The event has generated more than $12 million in economic impact and $2 million for local charities.

Welcome to the 9th running of the Oakland Running Festival.

Online registration closes on March 22, but it looks as if we may still have slots in all races at the expo. If you know someone who still wants to run but missed the online deadline, please encourage them to stop by the Marriott City Center on March 23 or March 24 to sign up!

Race Day Weather Information

Oakland Running Festival was selected to be a part of the USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance. The USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance is an exclusive network of the country’s top independent marathons and half marathons that have been bundled together for nationwide sponsorship, promotion, and editorial amplification. Each of the Alliance races were selected based on their size, legacy/history, growth potential, and efficiency of race operations. The Baltimore Running Festival, another CSE event, also received USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance approval. Overall, only 14 events across the country meet the standard to be part of the alliance.

The Celebration Village will have activities throughout the day:  Live music Awards on the Main Stage  Interactive Games Activities for kids  Souvenir Shop  Food & Drink Vendors (8am-2pm)  Expo Booths All finish line activities close at 2pm.

IMPORTANT: Each bib has a parent tear tag with the child’s bib number printed on it. IT IS IMPORTANT that parents tear this off tag and hold it to help us identify your child at the finish line. We ask that parents assist their children in getting from Eastshore Park to start the race. Parents are encouraged to run the course with their child. All races will start promptly at the time indicated.

Upon completion of the race, Fun Run participants are corralled in a holding area inside Eastshore Park. CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THIS AREA UNTIL THEIR ACCOMPANYING ADULT ARRIVES AND PRESENTS THE TEAR AWAY SECTION WITH THEIR CHILD’S NUMBER.

Part of the excitement surrounding the Oakland Running Festival is that it is much more than just a road race. We will have activities in the Celebration Village for people young and old, and for runners and non-runners alike.

Finish Line Celebration Village

We encourage all runners to invite their family and friends to join them at the event. We will have plenty of activities to entertain even the non-runners while they wait for you to finsih the race. Here are some tips for a good fan: 1) Wear Comfortable Shoes. There are several excellent viewing points but you may walk further than some runners! 2) Come up with a few things to shout at the runners as they pass. “You’re almost there” should not be one of them unless you are within the final .2 mile stretch! 3) Make lots of noisecowbells are great, but pots & pans work too!

Tips for Spectators

Prior to the race, all participants will meet in the Kids Fun Zone in Eastshore Park. At 8:15am, both groups will depart for their respective startline.
