Old Crow Medicine Show, a Nashville-based string band, brings a rollicking new sound to old-time mountain music. Their new release, OCMS, was produced by David Rawlings—longtime partner with Gillian Welch. “It’s wonderful that these young musicians are going back to traditional material and making it their own,” commented Wein. “And that such a large public is embracing this music.” In that spirit, an expanded third stage will be devoted to string bands at this year’s festival. The 2004 Festival is a milestone, Jones believes. “New York Times writer Joe Klein [in an article of June 13] has just traced Jeff Tweedy’s musical lineage to the moment when Bob Dylan went electric at Newport in 1965, because it changed the way we listen to music. So there’s a special resonance in having Wilco on the event, nearly forty years later. And in wondering where the music will take us next.” Friday, August 6 at 8 pm at the Hotel Viking Ballroom One Bellevue Avenue, Newport An Evening With RON SEXSMITH and JOSH RITTER
