The Old Millbrook School Family Centre Newsletter - Fall/Winter ‘14

Putting the ‘Fun’ in Fundraising Raising money can be difficult for a small charity - there are just so many worthy causes to support. The volunteers at the Old Millbrook School have been trying out some new and fun ways to raise money, including the very successful ‘Oktoberfest’ night that took place in October and raised a whopping $2,700! Thanks to everyone who took part! Another new intiative is through Fundscrip. You can buy gift cards online for almost any store and help raise money for the Family Centre! So far, we have raised more than $50 this way, and that’s with only a few people signed up! To register for Fundscript please visit www.fundscrip.com and enter our invitation code LS4UKD. This is a win-win way to buy giftcards for Christmas or teacher gifts. Have more ideas for fundraising? We’d love to hear from you! Email us at [email protected].

Money raised for the Family Centre stays right in here in our community and benefits local families.

TIME FOR SWEET TREATS AND JINGLE BELLS! The holiday season is just around the corner which means the ‘Christmas Baking Raffle’ is almost here. The lucky winners receive dozens of delicious home-made squares, cookies and other treats. This is a big event for the family centre, raising money and awareness and helps the Centre continue to offer and expand free programs for local families. You can get involved: donate baked goods, buy raffle tickets, share information on Facebook, or volunteer your time to help sell tickets at community events. Tickets will be for sale until December 6th, including at ‘Christmas in the Village’ in downtown Millbrook on December 4th. The draw will take place after the Santa Claus parade on December 6th. Please email [email protected] if you’d like to help, to sign up to donate baking, or for more information! Thank you for your support!!

MUSIC & MOVEMENT IS HOPPING !

Free program having busiest session yet The third year of Music & Movement kicked off at Centennial place in October, and is busier than ever! Volunteer coordinators Nancy and Lee have enjoyed meeting a new gang of children and sharing songs, stories and movement. “In past years we’ve asked familes to register,” expains Family Centre Board Chair, Angie McLean. “But, we worried that some children were missing out so this year we’ve organized the program as a drop-in. And it certainly seems to be working. We had 35 children and 23 caregivers the last time! We do ask, as it’s so busy, that parents remember that they are part of the session too, and to participate, help supervise and stay involved.” Dates for the remainder of 2014 are November 17th, December 1st & 15th from 10 - 11am. A snack is provided. This program is geared to children under 5 years of age. ** Caregivers/Parents are reminded to keep sick children home for the health of our friends at Centennial Place. **

The Family Centre’s Music & Movement Program is great for kids because it helps with socialization, balance and fine motor skills, helps then learn to listen to a ‘teacher’ and of course is a whole lot of fun! Thanks to our partner, Centennial Place, for their support in offering this fun and free program!
