OPPOSITION TDs have called for sackings at the top in our bailed- out banks, if the well-paid chiefs don’t improve efforts to solve the deepening mortgage crisis.

New figures show that almost 30,000 mortgage holders are more than two years in arrears, while 100,000 are more than three months late. Nearly a fifth of all residential accounts are in some form of arrears.

Homeowners’ groups expressed frustration yesterday at the worsening problem – at a time when one banking boss has a pay package worth up to €840,000 annually.
